Teacher's Response - Fact about FIH t-shirt protest

Teacher's Response - Nothing to do with dress code! Submitted by Grizelda on Sun, 09/30/2007 - 9:52am.

I teach at Fleming Island High School. This protest had NOTHING to do with the very reasonable dress code. The focus was new gates installed in and around the gym. The gates will cut down on the number of thefts from gym lockers and also the numerous incidents of students leaving campus for lunch.

Principal Sam Ward does it AGAIN

I never attended Fleming Island High School. In fact, I was never a student of a Clay County school. My younger sister, though, is a student at FIHS, and therefore under the totalitarian dictator that is Sam Ward. It is understood that student dress codes are reviewed and approved by a committee of students from the school. The student handbook--which can be found on FIHS's webpage--states this. But which students? I'm not afraid to express that more than likely, the "committee" was hand-picked by Ward. I also will say that the dress code is relatively reasonable. I've experienced worse things in school.
