Halloween

Ghosts, ghouls and Moose — a spookily-good combination.

Last night as I passed Moosehaven on my way home, I noticed a sign advertising free trick-or-treating on the haven grounds. I've visited this home for aged Moose many times — every year for the American Pie 4th of July, for example — but this was the first time I'd seen the Moose hook their horns into Halloween. I had to stop and check it out.

Orange Park police were inside directing traffic to an area on the grass. No cars were allowed on the roads inside, making it a safe place for tiny ghouls and goblins to search for treats.

Poppy's Halloween

Ok I'm one of those idiots that dresses up their animals for Halloween.   Well, maybe not such an idiot as her costume came from the dollar store.  My grandkids just love these little videos and it took me a little over an hour to take the pictures, make the video and throw it up on Youtube.  I still don't know how to put it up on this site so here is the link.

Enjoy!

Don't carve your Pumpkin too early!

Just so you know: If you carve your pumpkin too early you will end up with a pile of fly infested orange smelly goo. Especially if the weather remains as warm as it has been. Don't leave it out in a sunny location either, the thing will rot from the bottom and you won't know it until it is to late.

Just a simple tip from me to all you people that haven't had a Halloween down this far south. Sometimes I really wish we had NORMAL seasons. We are all happy around my house cause there is talk of upper 50 degree weather. And then I see it is already snowing in the mountains of Colorado. Is it me or has it been super hot this summer?

Do you know where the witches are?

As Paul Bowker points out in his Friday, 14 Sept. column, Halloween is already in the air - or at least in the candy aisles.

Seeing signs of the holiday is not that surprising, with the eagerness of children and corporations alike anticipating October 31. But I started seeing talking pirate heads and spring-loaded skeletons in the second week of August. Even a major All Hallow's aficionado like myself has to admit that could be jumping the gun.

But it did get me thinking: Where do the boys and ghouls in Clay County go come October 31?

I want to work some magic and serious fun, photos and events into the My Clay Sun issues leading up to Halloween, provided Clay County bloggers can tell me where the good stuff is!
