BCC Upholds Planning Commissions Rejection of Ravines Land Use Study
Last night the BCC voted 5-0 to accept the Planning Commissions rejection of the Land Use Change Study on the Ravines represented by the PERSONAL ATTORNEY of the Bankruptcy Trustee for Jacksonville Golf & Learning Center, and Ravineland Inc. With that decision the attempt to entice a developer at the Jan 31st Auction to pay more then three times what that course is worth has failed. No idiot in their right minds are going to pay 5 million dollars for a course that needs at least a million dollar investment to bring it back into operation. As of todays date the attempt by the Bankruptcy Attorney to get rich off the Bankrupt Assets once belonging to Jacksonville Golf & Learning Center has dimmed considerably. OP zoning change and the Ravines
Marsha; I'm pretty sure you saw the article in MCS about the zoning change vote in OP. If not, just go to the NEWS link here. I notice that the BoCC chair was not happy about it at all. He wasn't happy about no signs being posted in the neighborhood (his, because he lives there). He wasn't happy about the outcome because it may open up a can of worms in other areas of the city, as written about by OneMann in an earlier blog. So, I have to ask you, were there any signs posted in the Ravines about the land use change request? I certainly hope that the chair remembers his chagrin over the vote in OP when it comes time to hear the issues when they are brought to the BoCC.
Ravines Legal Opinion
I just read an e-mail from County Commissioner Rob Bradley to one of our fellow MCS bloggers, Marsha. (It's public record.) The e-mail relayed County Attorney Mark Scruby's opinion of the situation at The Ravines, something near and dear to Marsha's heart. I imagine her heart's aching now. I'll sum up the attorney's opinion of local government's two-step role in the controversial future of what used to be one of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in Florida: First, watch while a bankrupcty court strips Ravines residents of the contractual rights guaranteed in the deeds to their homes and, second, hold down those stripped residents while they're being deflowered by a developer.
Ravines Trustee meets with Residents
The twit theatre continues. Last night the Trustee for the Bankruptcy case met with the residents to provide some information and answer questions. If I hadn't been there myself I wouldn't believe what was said. I wondered on more then one occassion if the stage at the Civic Center was too high and the man was suffering from a lack of oxygen. 1. The Trustee openly admitted that his greatest source of information was Ken Debusk. Ummm, hello????? Why would you accept counsel from the business who failed in it's performance? Considering the animosity the prior owner has for the residents how can the Trustee in all good conscience consider this man his best source? When speaking of a future owner the Trustee said on one or more occassion "you people" "you people" to the residents. The implication was so obviously there that the Trustee's mind has been poisoned.
Bankruptcy in the Ravines
Monday, August 6th was supposed to be the day that the course at the Ravines would be sold to the highest bidder on the courthouse steps. That event is cancelled secondary to the request for bankruptcy by the owner, Mr. DeBusk. Mr DeBusk will be having a meeting to discuss his perceptions regarding the petition for bankruptcy on Monday, Aug 6 at 6:30PM in the Fairway Villas' Board Room in The Ravines. This is located between Villas D & E. I was told that if I had any neighbors/friends that I thought might be interested in hearing this particular discussion that I was to "feel free to bring them" and further that this meeting would be "...opened to any and all questions..."
Golfing Blues
New Day; New Blog Focus: My understanding of the silly, maddening, fascinating, infuriating events with direct and indirect impact on my community. Also, my interests which may or may not amuse anyone else. So be it. Today: Golfing Blues Clay County has quite a few courses. Rumor says that they are all barely breaking even from a business standpoint (except probably the one on NAS Jacksonville. Lotta choices for us. I live on a golf course. A defunct golf course. Been defunct for over a year with no end in sight. Don't know if there is anyone out there with enough $$ and tolerance for suffering that would want to buy it. Probably the most beautiful area for golf in NE FL but...it is all overgrown with mustard weeds with a level of disrepair that has taken multiple owners years to achieve. But I have an IDEA: Related: read more | ElGuappo's blog | 1 comment | Tags: Clay | community | golf | Middleburg | ravines | The Ravines
