Teacher's Response - Fact about FIH t-shirt protest

Teacher's Response - Nothing to do with dress code! Submitted by Grizelda on Sun, 09/30/2007 - 9:52am.

I teach at Fleming Island High School. This protest had NOTHING to do with the very reasonable dress code. The focus was new gates installed in and around the gym. The gates will cut down on the number of thefts from gym lockers and also the numerous incidents of students leaving campus for lunch.

More on (moron?) school clothing

Back in the Pleistocene Era when I was in high school, we did not have uniforms as it was public school. (Back when public school was good.) We did, however, have a dress code. Girls and boys wore slacks, and shirts and blouses that had no hint of immodesty (jeans and sneakers were prohibited). From what I see of how some girls dress (and I do believe this is a minority) they appear to want to graduate to Vegas Show Girl School when they are too old to be legally retained in high school. While this kind of dress is appreciated by teenage boys, it really has no place in school or even an office environment.
