transportation

The Glass is Half Full, no pessimism here

There are many opportunities to correct our current traffic congestion. I had dinner with a friend of mine this evening, who's thinking about running for County Commission, when we brainstormed transportation outlets for the county.

He reminded me that some years ago, FDOT proposed a flyover from Wells Road to Collins Road, north of I-295. The residents were so vocal, FDOT dropped any plans of creating another outlet from Clay to Duval County.

We suggest that flyover needs to be placed back in the 5-year plan.

Many of you tout the expansion of College Drive to Blanding Boulevard. Frankly, since the Super Wal-Mart has been approved on Blanding Boulevard, anything emptying onto Blanding in the righthand lane where College Drive is merging onto Blanding is insane. Traffic will be trying to merge into the righthand lane while traffic from College Drive is trying to merge onto Blanding.

Barn-burner Tuesday

MCS Land,

Tuesday stands to be a barn-burner day. Ready emergency crews and prepare the hospitals for incoming wounded.

The BCC agenda is loaded with hot topics.

On the consent agenda, Commissioner Bush is sure to pull the Transportation Committee meeting minutes. He will explain the mitigation of road impacts against a development that doesn't exist.

Discussion under Old Business could take hours (depending on the mood of the Commission) because we've got a Veteran's Wall, a strategic transportation plan presentation and a hearing on road impact fees on the agenda.

Transportation Dollars Needed in Clay County

Sen. Bill Nelson was in the area a few weeks ago and held a town hall meeting in Orange Park.  Unfortunately, I was not able to attend, but did read in the local press something that floored me.  With all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth about transportation issues in Clay County, and the dire need for money to fund transportation solutions, no one from our local governments, county or cities, has thought to ask the Federal government for financial assistance.  A concerned citizen asked Sen. Nelson why Clay County was not receiving funds for transportation and he reponded that he had not received a request for money.  Really?!?I'm curious as to #1 - why hasn't anyone made such a request? #2 exactly who in our county government dropped this ball?
