conservationWater and Earth Matters
Good afternoon! Thank you all so very much for your interest and participation in my blog from yesterday. I’ve been painting and thinking again, so here’s another topic that is near and dear (to us and millions of others) – water conservation and preserving our safe drinking water. There are many things we can do on a daily basis, each one of us, to assist in this important matter. Kudos to the Green Cove City Council
GCS has now officially joined the band wagon against draining the St.Johns River. The article says most all communities in the NE region are against it. It's the entity of the SJRMD that is supporting it. Lets not come in after the decision has been made and rail against it. Contact your legislators and support your local goverment on this issue if you feel draining the River may bring on consequences that no one is truly qualified to fathom decades on down the line. There are so many variables in the eco system there is no expert that can really know. They just guess based upon their best information and experience. Devil Grass
Finally, the St. Johns River Water Management District is making a statement about St. Augustine grass and the evils of the stuff. Here's a link to the article in the St. Augustine Record of yesterday, 11/25/07. It's not hard to let it go, the grass that is. Read the article in full and encourage your HOAs if you have one, to allow alternatives. It is sinful to keep using 64% of residential water for irrigation. http://staugustine.com/stories/112507/news_017.shtml There are many other websites which promote the use of native plants here in beautiful, sunny Florida. www.FNPS.org (Florida Native Plant Society), and many more. Just do a search and let me know if you have any questions. I am familiar with most of the organizations and sources. State Flunkies At "Work"
Those of you who have read some of my earlier work will not be surprised at today’s outrage. On page one of the T-U is a story of unbearable cruelty in the wanton destruction of a beautiful black bear by the humorously titled Florida Fish And Wildlife Conservation Commission. Someone should send these people a dictionary with the word “conservation” highlighted in garish yellow. The excuse given was that the bear was given two previous warnings to stop acting like a bear. I am highly skeptical that this lunatic organization adequately explained to the bear that he was facing summary execution if he acted like a bear for a third and fatal time. Frankly, the closest to animal empathy I detect in “spokescritter” Karen Parker was the crocodile tears shed for the luckless bear. I can only imagine the conversation played out Friday afternoon.
