seperation of church and state
Religious Freedom
Did you know there is a proposed amendment to the Florida Consitution for Religious Freedom? Let's take a quick look at it: "An individual or entity may not be barred from participating in any public program because of religion." That looks reasonable but then the amendment goes on to remove this next section, a prohibition of using state funds as follows: "No revenue of the state or any political subdivision or agency thereof shall ever be taken from the public treasury directly or indirectly in aid of any church, sect, or religious denomination or in aid of any sectarian institution."
Blogging on the blogs
I am new to this whole blogging deal. I've seen it lots of places, and have read about alot of issues that I had an opinion of one way or the other. Being a journalist at heart but not profession it has been difficult for me to turn away at times. I was excited when My Clay Sun provided the opportunity at a local level to chime in. Here is my topic on my own little page. After reading so many of the different blogs the same thoughts keep running through my head. I guess tension and anger is just boiling over everywhere. The art of giving an opinion or an idea without someone taking a personal shot at someone on the other side of the fence appears all but gone. With regards to Ann Coulter, her political views aside I tend to not listen to mean mouthed people. I also don't understand why in a nation known as the great melting pot why stereotyping runs so rampant. There is a difference between a stereotype and statistical fact and I doubt that there are any statistics for negative comments about the residents in Clay County I've read here. I am also not to be pitied because I happen to like something as inconsequential as a tv show that someone else doesn't.
