You'll love Oreo, Ranger

This week's Pet Preview comes courtesy of Bradford County Paws in Starke. This group primarily rescues animals from Bradford County Animal Control that are scheduled for euthanasia and fosters them until they are adopted. To view other available pets, visit www.bcpaws.org. You can also call June at (904) 673-5813.

Can't adopt or foster right now? Pass these pets on to someone who might be interested!

OREO: Too cute for words - and I'm a dog person! This little 9-week-old female bobtail kitten already has her shots and has been spayed. She also uses her litterbox well and knows how to using a scratching post!

'Weird' can be wonderful

'Young and pretty' are valued qualities in more than just pop stars and models.

Animals beyond the universally cute baby stage often find themselves looked-over if they should find themselves in a shelter or at animal control facilities.

Take Marisa and Melinda, for example. Both girls are domestic short hair (DSH) 'torties', with a multi-colored swirl in their coats. Both have been at the Safe Animal Shelter in Middleburg since 2005 as very young kittens. And both are still at the shelter today.

There's nothing wrong with them. They're just different.

Pet of the Week

This week we are hosting our first Spotted contest, and it's dedicated to those four-legged (or no-legged, or even two-legged) family members of Clay County; your pets.

No matter whether your pet hops, frolics, flies or slithers, submit a picture of them to Spotted.

You can add your pictures by going to You Spotted, clicking on the Community link, which is just above the photo galleries and then Upload Photos.

Be sure to include your pet's name, age, description of the photograph and who you are, so we can include that information when the contest is over.

The winner will be selected Wednesday (March 2) morning and will appear on page 2 of the print My Clay Sun
