People interested in Photography

Who am I? As for most people, there are a lot of different answers to that question. For the purposes of My Clay Sun, I am a sports writer and photographer. And while that's certainly not nothing, it's not everything, either. A literature professor once told me his theory that at any given time we embody a thousand different "selves." I thought this observation quite astute, since it helped explain a lot of the confusion that goes on in here. Most people tend to define themselves by their past and present, and for retired Supreme Court justices and ex-professional football players, that's a pretty good deal -- though it's also kind of sad to know that what defines you the most is in the past. Fortunately for me, I have no such great claims to the past. Therefore, I will define myself as I think a lot of people would like to define themselves: by their dreams of the future. I used to want to write the great American novel. Now, I think I'd be happy just to read one, and then write a novel that would help pay a few bills. I'd like to explore human consciousness -- mine, to be specific, since it's the only one I can really be certain exists -- and discover new ways of seeing and thinking that will keep me interested in my life and the world for however many years I might be allowed to wander this Earth. I hope that somehow this will help illuminate my life, but more importantly, I hope it can somehow help to illuminate the lives of others as well. Beyond that, a nice bottle of red every now and then, a good steak and potato, and maybe an occasional rousing set of doubles with a few precisely placed passing shots down the line would be nice. I grew up a Navy Brat on the Westside, and graduated from Forrest in 1989. I have worked in the eye care field for 15 years, but decided it was time to devote myself to my family. Currently, I am a full time wife and mom and part time teacher at my daughter's school. I am a Christian by God's grace through His Son Jesus, so I am also active in my Church, and with Bible Study Fellowship.

Fourth generation Floridian. Born and raised in Jacksonville, left after high school and delighted after 20+ years to be back in Florida and living in Clay County.

My name is Marti. I am young. However, this gives no indication to the amount of intellect, drive, or ambition I possess. I will still admit that there is much that I do not know about life, but I am learning everyday. The purpose of this blog is to allow you to join me as I embark on the greatest adventure of my life. In June 2007 I am leaving to spend a month in the country of Uganda, an area that has been struggling under a 20 year long civil war. Here's to the journey.

I graduated college in 1973. I've been married since 1971 to the same woman. I have a son who has become successful in the automotive industry. His wife is becoming successful in the insurance industry. And they have blessed me with a wonderful grandson in 2005. I continue my career in sales, but have also become a substitute teacher in Clay County, mainly teaching at Middleburg High School.

I'm a soon-to-be middle aged web consultant. I helped design and build the MyClaySun web site, a labor of love. And I sure wish I had MyClaySun or a site like it in my home town :(

I've lived in Magnolia Point for five years, moving here from the Cleveland, Ohio, area. I've always loved Jacksonville. I was stationed at NAS in the 1950s and liked it from the day I arrived. I spent 41 years in marketing and advertising, many of those years as a writer for TV, radio and print. I love to write and have been running a regular Community Column for Green Cove Springs in the old Clay County Line for about a year. I was born in Pittsburgh but lived in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Cleveand. I am married to Alice, a wonderful wife, who is very active in Magnolia and Green Cove.
