Too much to ask?
Yes, I'm new to this site. I'm not picking on anyone. I enjoy reading about your thoughts and ideas. However, is it too much to ask for the correct word usage in a blog? I'm not overly picky. A lot of people have trouble remembering when it is appropriate to use the comma, apostrophe, etc. (including me) But, can we at least use the correct word? (some examples of misused words below) there & their to & too fair & fare where & wear here & hear
Get the idea?
You are now free to berate me.

Unless pressed for time I always try to go over what I have written for errors either in the point trying to be made, or for grammatical mistakes. My fingers just move too quickly at times. Even when I do, stuff still gets missed. It's been proven that the human brain can subconsciously overlook such things but still understand the message. The point is well taken but it would be a shame if people were afraid to write anything in here for fear of being "berated" for their mistakes. Even the careless and ignorant have a right to speak and be heard. Our voting ballots still make allowances for those who cannot sign their own names because they never learned how. NekoMom perhaps you could expand on your examples in continuing blogs and help out those who do not know, or forget to assist in improving their writing skills. I know mine is far enough from perfect that the only people I correct are my kids.

Even the careless and ignorant have a right to speak and be heard. And, unfortunately, they are also allowed to run for and usually are, elected to government office.

NecoMomI have never professed to be a professional writer. Or nor have I said that I can write right without making mmistakes So sew what if my punctuation or use of words are is not correct. I have been reading the blogs on this site for about as long as this site has been up and running and have yet not been able to grasp the concept that one was trying to make because of grammer or improper use of a words they used You say that you are not overly picking. Depending on your definition of picky I’ll except that, But you sure are petty! But don’t despare there there is a place for you here hear on this site everyone is welcome. But if you find that you keep mentally triping on the community blogs you could always use the blogs for exsperts

Marsha I think that is the point that freespeech is trying to make. I know that I'm not qualified to be on the expert blog site. It would be my guess that NecoMom would be. If she goes, I wonder who will follow.

"We have too many high sounding words and too few actions that correspond with them." ~ Abigail Adams letter to John Adams,1774 I did ask for you to berate me. :) I guess you get what you ask for. :) As for being picky...let me just explain further why I "stumble" over the simplest word miscues. I have a kid. He is in public school. What are our schools turning out? A misuse that is consistently repeated is not a typo or just a mental "boo", its a lack of understanding. Are our teachers not correcting these mistakes? As parents are we not correcting these mistakes? We all remember the lessons on words that are sound alike but are spelled differently.(homophones) Is this lesson lost because it isn't on the FCAT? I really don't know. I guess its a pet peeve. I'd like to think that since I moved here for the schools (from S. Fl) that I my son is getting a better classroom experience. So, these things stick out to me. No one is perfect. I would never want to keep someone from writing due to fear of a misused word. But, shouldn't we all strive to do better? (That includes me, BTW)

NekoMom, Congratulations on your very first baptism by fire on the blog. Sorry, should have warned you. Hope that you're not discouraged. Keep your intellectual honesty and standards high, especially on the blogs. Your blood pressure may get a bit high at times, but you will never suffer from boredom. You go girl! Let me explain why I stumble over the simplest of words. First let me say I’ am not a kid nor am I in school, and anyone with a child today has there hands full trying to educate them. I was a very educated person. It might be hard for some to believe that, but I did very well in school, and collage. I lost my education to illness not by choice. I have spent years trying to get back were I once was. I lost all my math skills except for the most basic one’s I have improved immensely from where I used to be. I used to sit at home and wonder why this had to happen to me. I would spend weeks in bed hoping against all hope that I would not wake up the next morning. I become very embarrassed when I have to do some simple math and have to use a calculator. So grammar and spelling is the least of my worries today. I am tickled that I write as well as I do. I had to change who I was, to whom I am today, and I did that by this prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change. The courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. That prayer kept me alive just long enough to accept who I had become, and not who I was. Yes we all should strive to do better, and I do. I have just come to the realization that it is a waste of the precious time I have left on trying to be who I once was. All of us don’t remember the lessons on the words that sound alike, but are spelled different, and I have no desire to learn them. I am happy being who I am, just for the day. If my grammar and punctuation are unacceptable to you just look for the name GhostWriter and don’t read my blog’s GhostWriter

I'll have to say tonight is the first time I have really laughed at this blog site. Lily - two funny!! I think the answer lies in Neko's name - Neko - "Mom". As the son of a mom who was constantly correcting her kids' grammar (thanks Mom), I understand where Neko is coming from. But, calling out bloggers for missteaks is an invitation to get your arse handed to you on a platter. I join RichK in saying, "Neko, you've been warned," and "You go girl." Tighten your seat belt, hold on tight. Your mind is about to get a ride. Expert blogs? You're kidding right? Does it get any better than this? Submitted by winn1955 on Wed, 05/16/2007 - 10:07am.
I have some questions. Who is the expert blog site meant for? How does one qualify to use it, and why does someone pay too put there links on it if it is not used, or seen buy anyone?

I totally agree. I asked for it - no warning necessary. I'm NOT putting anyone down. I would never quit reading just because. I mention it because it is healthy to do so. We all boo. I did - didn't you see it? HOWEVER, When we quit caring how we present ourselves whether (not weather) it be in writing, however casual, speaking or physically, then we are doing ourselves and others a disservice. The self-fulfilling prophecy applies here. So, I will let this introduction be what it is. I do not "grade" your blogs. It was merely an observation. Ghostwriter - don't get defensive. It is not necessary. As I stated before, I enjoy reading the blogs. Let the topic die (or dye)

I was showing you that there is always a flip side to a coin. As you said, “A misuse that is consistently repeated is not a typo or just a mental "boo", it’s a lack of understanding.” Understanding is the definitive word here, and I do have a lack of it. I choose not to waste my time trying to reeducate myself to the level that I once was at. I have accepted the fact that I will never be the person that I once was. I choose to get by with the ability that I have today, because tomorrow May never come. “The power from within comes from choice. The choices that I make create the character that I so choose too be that day”. This phase was taken from my welcome response of I Felt That. So, NecoMom what I have to say to you is welcome to the blog’s, and if my grammar and punctuation are incorrect you! Are the one that will have to learn to read them with out mentally tripping over them….. Ghostwriter

Hey Winn- An expert blogger is supposed to be someone from the community who is, well...an expert in their field; someone with a particular passion or knowledge of a subject. We just haven't found the right person yet! Anybody have suggestions? 904.359.4538 e-mail Jonathan

NekoMom,
No, I don't think you are out of line. These are lessons we all should have learned in grade school, refined in high school, for usage for the rest of our lives.
A person once asked where the spell check was. I use it all the time. It's the dictionary. I get get caught up with the laziness of not taking enough time to check my spelling and/or usage. and that's a shame on me. I sometimes let my mind get ahead of my fingers and an inadvertant OOPS! shows up. This should give me impetus to improve. It should be a never ending job.
Thanks for giving us a verbal kick in the mental pants. Welcome to the blog. Hope to hear from you more often. The more, the merrier.
