From the Right Side of the Brain

These past few weeks have been very busy for the Art Community of Orange Park.  The members of the Art Guild have been actively volunteering their time to raise awareness for the visual arts.

Members Jennelle Comiskey, Virginia McCampbell, Lynette Woodman, Judy Laye, Susan Mills and Connie Pratt assisted at the Middleburg Elementary School Art Fair Day.  We offered demonstrations on decoupage, collage, ceramics and photography to an enthusiastic student body of over 400 students.

The membership presented an exhibit of member work "Small Wonders" in the Great Hang Ups Gallery & Framing on Fleming Island that enjoyed an Opening Reception with over 40 visitors. This exhibit was judged by Mr. Barry Wilson, an award winning artist and instructor.

The Art Guild awarded their Annual Art Scholarship to Ridgeview High School Senior Melissa Nicolay, who plans to attend the University of North Florida this fall to study graphic arts.  Melissa was honored at a reception on May 1st where she received a certificiate and a check for $500.  Congratulations to this outstanding student.

May 2 found our volunteers once again working with the students of Clay County at the "Journey of the Mind" for gifted students at the Clay County Fairgrounds.  Students were introduced to collage making techiques and completed a "masterpiece" to take home.

On May 3rd the Art Guild was honored with a reception at the Real Estate Gallery at 929 Park Avenue in Orange Park.  The Art Guild presents a rotating exhibit of member work and displays over 40 pieces of art for visitors to enjoy.  The reception offers the opportunity for the community to view a wonderful collection of original artwork and to meet your local artists.

The Art Guild of Orange Park continues to display member work in the 8 rotating exhibits in the community...our newest location is Island Realty 636 Kingsley Avenue and includes Orange Park Town Hall, Green Cove Springs City Hall, Orange Park Cancer Center, the Center for Aging, Fleming Island Library, The Real Estate Gallery and the Wehner School of the Arts.

Remember art is the color of life!!!
