I'm Just Pooped!!!

I don't know about any of you, but I am just plain pooped trying to keep up with what the candidates are saying about each other.  We have lies, stretching, bending, innuendos, incomplete truths & just about anything else you can think to call it.

I am thankful for the fact checking sites, but there just isn't enough time to do it all.  It has gotten to the point that whenever one of the four or their minions open their mouths, I have to go to the keys to find out what is behind, on the side, over, under or behind what they say.  Is it just me or is this campaign the worst in memory for what can only charitably be called "The BS tour du jour el grande?"

Please note that I'm not claiming that one is worse than another or lying more than another.  It's just getting more & more difficult to tell the difference.  To make matters worse, there are millions of voters out there who blindly accept what they say.  Add to that is the vitriol this campaign has produced based only what what some people heard what other people say they heard on the news or from their friends & neighbors next door, getting a haircut, in the local saloon, at church or at the local store looking for chips & dip on sale.

Way back, I seem to remember one of our fellow bloggers suggesting that we scrap the system we have to make the process better/easier.  I like it & I've been kicking around some ideas.  Limit the presidential campaign in time to say, 8 months.  (I picked that out of my ball cap.  Why not?)  Limit each candidate to spend no more than say, 10 or 12 million dollars.  Campaign like crazy for the first 2 months.  Have an open primary to separate the most of the best from the most of the not best.  Let them all have 1 month off to regroup, rethink & replan.  Then have at it for the rest of the limited time period.

Perfect system?  I doubt it very much as your suggestions will no doubt show.  But it's a start.  At this point, any suggestions will probably be better than what we have now.  JATFUR.

Solo, yes, the system does not work. I believe that voting for either of the two big parties is foolish. It only encourages them.

OGV,

I wonder if we could try something new.  New, at  least for politicians who say something really stupid, lie to us or any of the other things I mentioned.  When they do it, take a rolled up newspaper & smack the heck out of them right on the nose & say,"NO!"  Hey, it usually works for dogs.

Now, for the people who say stupid things, like the lady McCain corrected when she said Obama is an Arab.  First, you get a 2x4................JATFUR.

This is a bit off topic, but I would like some perspective on the need in florida to strike down the no match law.

For those unfamiliar with this issue, no match states that a voter must show their identity with either a social security card or a driver's license, if unable to produce either they have to fill out a provisionary ballot.  If struck down, voters would be able to use other forms of ID and not have to fill out a provisionary ballot.

I don't understand the objection to no match, and with all the charges of voter fraud I think relaxing voting regulations is the wrong thing to do.

Felix;

I don't understand your question or explanation. A Social Security card is not to be used as identification. It says so right on the card. Or at least the one I got in about 1963 does.

I have never had to present my DL to vote. Though I guess with the scan feature it might speed things up a little if it were really busy at the site. I've always used my retired military ID card which has my picture on it. My wife has used her Military Dependent ID card on more than one occasion.

We have never been required to fill out a provisionary ballot.

Oops, I badly mistated that.

Here's the linkhttp://www.aclufl.org/issues/voting_rights/nomatch.cfm

The way it really works is that a provisionary ballot has to be cast if the DL number can't be matched to the DMV, or the SS# can't be matched to the Social Security administration.  Also, no match only applies to voters registered after Sept 8, 2008.

Felix;

Thanks for the link. Very interesting.

I don't understand why we shouldn't require postive ID to be able to vote. It isn't like it costs money to get that ID.

Too many dead people voting otherwise. Or you face what (Solo) Uncle Rich said once. Vote early, vote often.

Mike,

You make the philosophy of "Vote early, vote often," sound like a bad thing.  It's the Chicago way.  It only has one redeeming factor.  It has worked for a very long time:>)  JATFUR.

Rich since Independents are frequently left out of primaries and other things dedicated to the two party system, dont you think it would be fair to allow the Independents to vote twice since we really have no choice in who runs.

Having an extra vote may get Independents invited to debates if they have 2 votes.  Mike might like to be able to be seen and that would help right lol

Vote for all the petitions for changes to the county charter to let the courts know how you feel about it.

Hey, you guys keep this up I might have to think seriously of changing parties. What the heck, voting is so much fun why not try it twice.  : )

But Solo, Chicago? Man that's colder than where I was born and raised. Though it is nice in the Spring and Fall.

Mike,

Take care on how you speak of my hometown of Chicago.  I've got a lottery ticket that could drop 20m in my lap, minus what the money grubbing, so & so IRS (^###@*^>?": will take.  But after that, if I win, I am outta here.  So if that happens, I will be forced to blog long distance from somewhere near the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.  Or one or two other spots I have my eye on. So take this as a warning.  Be afraid.  Be very afraid.  If I get lucky & hit the lottery, you won't have Uncle Rich to kick around any more.  That's my story & I'm sticking to it.  So there.  PPPHHHHHHIIIITTTT !!!  JATFUR.

minus taxes, I'd move to Chicago. For that kind of money I could afford to buy some nice winter clothes.

I don't blame you for not taking me up on my invitation in that other blog. Smart man.

Mike,

Sometimes, I like to think that I am smart.  I just don't want to be taken for granted.  Used, loosed & cast aside.  You know the routine.  Hey!  I am more than just a pretty face, great legs & nice tush.  I am a man, not an animal or piece of meat.  I have a mind & I demand that all of you recognise that fact.  WHEW!  I'm feeling much better now.  On the other hand, I do have to admit that Sarah Palin has some really nice gams.  I really have to cut down on listening to these radio talk shows while I'm blogging.  Perhaps multi tasking is not my forte.  On the other hand, life is much too important to be taken too seriously.  Yep!  That's my story & I'm sticking to it.  At least for now.  Have a great one.  JATFUR.
