Are you serious??? This is what the CCSO has time to do???
So I attempted to have a yard sale this weekend.. One, my blog was taken down from this site - that's OK - understandable that people don't want to blog about yard sales... BUT - can u believe.... In all the arguments about what the deputies have to do around Clay County and our shortage of officers on patrol - Can you believe that this Saturday an officer took the time to remove my yard sale sign on US 17? OK... Their argument is that people put up these signs and then don't take them down... Well consider this, the sign they "removed" had my home address on it AND it wasn't just a sign, it was a corkboard with a painted frame that was staked in the ground.. In other words, it wasn't just a sign u would leave to rot on the side of the road, it was something that you would come back for... Also note I did everything I thought appropriate - I contacted Town Hall to make sure I didn't need a permit, and they never once mentioned I shouldn't put up signs.... In today's economy everyone is doing what they can to keep their head above water - as I am... I'm a single mother with a bunkbed and childrens clothes and toys to sale. I pay A LOT of money in property taxes - and you are telling me I don't have the right to post one yard sale sign? Again, let the point be made my address was on this sign, I wouldn't have left it on the side of the road for weeks to follow!!!! I know there are others that agree that the CCSO is NOT the best on response time. There have been about 3 neighborhood disturbances in my area within the last year that were answered by CCSO about an HOUR OR TWO after the complaints were called in... So, a concerned neighbor can call about an out of control driver in their neighborhood and it means nothing, but, don't you dare put a sign up advertising a yard sale. This may seem very silly to some, but to me I am just wondering what the priorities are of these deputies??? By the way, where are all these people that were running for office during the last election... (Obviously not picking up their signs off the side of the road) Many of these elections are over and there are PLENTY of political signs left standing! I completely agree with you. What exactly are the priorities of some of the CCSO deputies? I cannot believe the response time from them either having dealt with them personally. I will tell you one thing, it does not make me feel warm & fuzzy. Not that keeping me warm & fuzzy is their job, but I would sleep better knowing they would be at my home shortly should I have an emergency. Oh, just as an after thought, maybe you could advertise the bunk beds on Craig's List? I understand it's free. Submitted by Angela on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 11:05pm.
The removal of signs in the right of ways are the job of code enforcement. They have a clause about signs not being removed from Friday to Sunday. Mr Bodenweber is the Department Head of that Department and Animal Control. That should tell you what you need to know about that department. So why was CCSO removing signs against the policy of the County? Submitted by Foxx on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 11:06pm.
There can't be exceptions Mallory. Even you posted on the sign that you plan to come back and get the sign later, it cannot be overlooked as a violation. You're accusing the wrong people here of wrong doing, individuals that should be held to a higher standard of respect than what you've made them to be. There have been about 3 neighborhood disturbances in my area within the last year that were answered by CCSO about an HOUR OR TWO after the complaints were called in... So here, i assume you would like for Deputies to respond in a more orderly time. And above you don't want them to do their job, big double standard especially when it fits into your own interests. I understand you're upset that your sign was taken down for a simple yard sale, but you're blaming the wrong folks here. Call your commissioner and get some information about your topic. People often rant about other subjects when they're ticked about something that happened to them, so i would ask, where are these political signs you speak of, remember that while many races are over there are more than you may think still in progress.

The rules are the rules. I think it comes down to priorities. I have to give the CCSO the benefit of the doubt when I say that I am sure if as they were driving by to an armed robbery call and saw your sign they would pass right by your sign and go to the robbery. My guess is they were not sitting on any pending calls and were simply duing their duty.

Guess I've been out of touch too long. Way to go BCC, anything to get a problem off your backs. This should be the job of Code Enforcement as it was at one time, I believe. However, we all know that Code Enforcements hands are tied, is that thanks to the BCC also? LOL joeriley, and we 'ain't' seen nutting yet. Just wait and see what direction Travis Cummings and Rob Bradley will take Clay County if elected. Stryker now, vote for Ron Raymond and Mike Heemer! Submitted by Angela on Mon, 10/13/2008 - 11:22pm.
Both Commissioner Stewart and Conkey stated that signs put out from Friday evening until Monday morning are exempt. The signs they spoke of at the meeting were yard sale signs and open house/real estate signs. If the sign (yard sale) that is being discussed was up during the time allowed by the County's policy it was removed in violation of the county's policy.

Deputy Sheriff's picking signs from the roadways, you have to be kidding me. The crystal ball is glowing. Bank robbery in progress, robbers run out of bank shooting at Deputy, Deputy unloads their hand gun, out of bullets, quick pop the trunk for the heavy artillery, OH NO they (heavy artillery) are buried under 16 yard sale signs picked up earlier. Give it a break CCSO stick to protecting the citizens from criminals, leave the signs (even the really nice cork-board ones) to Code Enforcement. Mallory665: Did You Get That Female Cat Spayed Yet? it was CCSO? Did you make any calls on Monday to find out if it really was CCSO? Could it have been someone else that just wanted your cork board? I agree with Angela that the weekends are supposed to be no harm no foul. And I agree with you that CCSO should have better things to do than take yard sale signs. However, I'd like a little more confirmation than your statement that CCSO took your sign down. Political advertisement paid for and approved by, Mike Heemer, write-in, for Commission Chair.

“I contacted Town Hall to make sure I didn't need a permit, and they never once mentioned I shouldn't put up signs....” Town Hall is a different entity than the County Administration Building in Green Cove Springs. I have the same questions as Finder. Do tell all the facts. I have been around CCSO about as long as dirt and picking up yard signs is the last thing we want to even think about doing. We carry enough equipment around in the trunks of those Impalas now to sink a battleship. The last thing we want to add to it is a yard sign.

Even worse, picking up that yard sign likely triggers filing a report as well as disposing of it in the prescribed manner stipulated in General Orders (If any address it) A narrative including who, what, when where why and how. A deputy who came upon a sign obstructing the traveled portion of a roadway (the hard flat part car tires roll on - not the poorly delineated Right-Of Way) MIGHT, if it seemed to endanger the motoring public, stop long enough to chuck it off onto the adjacent grass, just to save the next guy's tires from being punctured by nails or support wire. You have the BoCC to thank for the CCSO having to take time out of their busy crime fighting schedual to take down yard sale signs. Last month the BoCC decided that ANY signs in the "right of way" i.e. on the corner, taped/stapled to a light pole or otherwise on "county property" are to be removed upon discovery.
YUP once again we voted-in the "county maffia" and they are taking care of business.
