Happy News-------FINALLY!OK kids, nothing @ CCAC, the race for sheriff, candidates & the like. We've got some happy news, the likes of which I'm sure all of you have been waiting. Hot off the presses from Bern, switzerland, 08.28.08. "A woman beheaded after she was accused of causing a girl to spit pins & cunvulse was exonerated Wednesday, more than 200 years after she became the last person executed as a witch in Europe." OH HAPPY DAY! We can all feel safe now. Justice has been carried out. "The decision to clear Anna Goeldi's name came after long debate in the Swiss state of Glarus, & was taken in consultation with churches." "The Glarus government has said that the Protestant Church council, which conducted the trial, had no legal authority to do so & had decided in advance that Goeldi was guilty. She was executed even though the law at the time did not impose the death penalty for nonlethal poisoning." Now let me see if I've got this right. A bunch of yahoos with nothing better to do, having no authority to do so, & with the intelligence factor that, toe to toe, probably couldn't find their own butts with a spotlight & an automatic butt detector, straight from Acme Butt Detector, took it upon themselves to put this woman on trial for witchcraft. They, in effect, said, "Bring the guilty witch in here, let's give her a fair trial & then off with her head." They did this even though it was against the law at the time. Well, Uncle Rich has a few questions. 1. What mind bending chemical were these idiots on at the time? 2. Where were the local authorities during this pathetic excercise of "Let's see just how stupid we can get at some one else's expense?" 3. Why did the Glarus government need to consult with any one, least of all, members of the same church that committed this crime in the first place? Are they all still goofy in the head, even after 200 years? Maybe too much chocolate. 4. And last, but not least, why the hell did it take 200 years to clear this cluster bomb up? (Yes, Uncle Rich used a nice word there.) As an addendum, Uncle Rich must ask OGV why HE didn't come up with this first. After all, you've been giving us some pretty funny stuff lately. Mike, Joe, I took a closer look & the date this woman was executed was 1792. That would make 1992 200 years & the article did say more than two hundred years. Close enough for my count. Mike, by your count, it seems that every 100 years, parts of society have a major case of stupid interupted only by minor cases of stupid. In 1892 I can think of what we were doing to the Native Americans. I'm not sure what was happening in other parts of the world & I just don't have enough reason to that much research. I wonder what kinds of stupids we'll do between now & 2092. I wonder how two terms of "W" will rank? Will Stanley leave Geraldine? Will James rash grow even worse? Will he tell his wife? LOL! yeah, I saw that article. I just didn't have the energy to start a whole new blog about a long dead non witch. I wouldn't mind having a live witch right now to throw a spell on Comcast t get them to stop the wavy lines coming through on my TV set.
