John TrasherWOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just read in a competing newspaper the reason or reasons why the "appointed" intrim County Commissioner resigned. It appears one of his important and powerful clients is again going to try and have the county approve a "poker room" at the Orange Park kennel club. All of this is being on in a very quiet and hush-hush manner. It appeared on the town of Orange Park's council meeting at the last minute and with no public opposition or comments, passed. Now it's going to go back to the County Commission for another shot at passage after being defeated once before several years ago. He resigned because his lobbying firm represents the kennel club and he did not want to have a "conflict of interest" in the vote. Wonder why he all of a sudden developed a conscience? He does not have a conscience, as evident with the garbage impact fee he got passed. He stands to gain from that...so I have no idea why he wants it to appears as if he has a conscience.

My wife and I disagree about the poker room at the dog track. I don't consider myself a prude, but I would not like to see more gambling in Clay County. She feels that there is no difference between poker and gambling on dogs - gambling is gambling. If that is correct - why not full blown casinos? What is morally different about poker and black jack. Nothing. What is the difference between slot machines and the lottery? Is gambling gambling, or does the state/county have the moral authority to decide what type of gambling is good enough for the commoners? My jury is still considering the evidence.
