State to oversee Clay County primary

The state Division of Elections will monitor Clay County’s ballot counting process in the Tuesday Republican primary, at the request of Supervisor of Elections candidate Chris Chambless.

Chambless sought state oversight after retiring Supervisor Barbara Kirkman publicly endorsed him — a former assistant elections supervisor — over his two opponents, Debbie Ricks and Stefanie Thomas. Also, Kirkman removed herself from the county Canvassing Board, the panel of elected officials that oversees the ballot tabulations.

State oversight will "refute any question of conflict or impropriety,” he said.

George Bush doesn't care about Clay Co. as much as my Dog.  You have cut the Rick's off at the pass.  This type of good old boy clay politics isn't going to work today. The hatchet job on Barbara was deplorable and won't work. Even if the SOE ofice made a couple of mistakes I don't think any one thinks it's corrupt. This move kinda makes that point ckear.

Having recently dealt with those in the State that would come in to oversee the election process, I would rather see Jimmy Carter and his group that routinely goes to third world countries to observe to make sure there is no voter fraud.  My observation is they have the objectivity of some of the attack dogs of the special interests overseeing and deciding on issues like the toll road.

Invite whomever you like. The press will also be there, I'm sure.
