Debate for State's Attorney
Angela Corey and Jay Plotkin participated in a debate tonight on WJXT TV4. It appeared to me that Angela Corey won the contest hands down. Just the weight of her personality buried Mr. Plotkin. She answered all the questions forthrightly while Plotkin kept telling everyone how proud he was to have a particular person sitting in the audience. If I were one of the bad guys sitting in the defendants chair, I’d be a lot more afraid of Ms. Corey than I would of Mr. Plotkin. Submitted by seeker on Tue, 08/12/2008 - 9:46pm.
Angela Corey I believe is the most logical choice. There obviously have been problems in the SAO for years and I believe if Plotkin is elected there will not be any change. Do we want a Harry Shorstein Jr.?

I agree Angela Corey is by far the person we need in that office. Please let all of your friends know that you support her. We can not afford even one more year of Harry Shorestein's administration. Jay Plotkin said last night he would do nothing different. That is a problem, a big problem! Judith Chapple Submitted by MrPike on Wed, 08/13/2008 - 5:18pm.
Angela all the way!! She seems to be very driven and focused on the job. I believe she will be fair and do a great job. Not to mention, we don't need Shornstein reincarnated taking the position... I think the fact that all three sheriff's support her speaks volumes (those are endorsements you can take serious, unlike union endorsements).

What is the difference between Jay Plotkin’s Campaign and The Cruise Ship the Titanic? At least the Titanic had a Band!! ! !

I met Angela about 25 years ago when she was relatively new on the job. I was impressed with her then and remain so. We need as much distance between the new S.A. and the old one as possible. Could anyone else have predicted the outcome of the post graduation rape investigation. The rich and the elected get away with everything under the current SA. Welcome, nobackup. Glad to have you . For those who missed it , watch the Corey/Plotkin debate on Sat. WJXT at 6:30 PM. Submitted by Angela on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 9:42am.
I watched the State Attorney debate. I heard Angela Corey say when enough evidence does not exist then she will explain that the case will not be tried. She said she would sit down with those involved and explain that to them. I wonder where Angela Corey is going to get the money in the budget to just try cases that do not have enough evidence to show a crime has been committed. Just because someone says they are a victim. I don't understand how that will be effective management of the State Attorney's Office or their budget. We have a guy who was arrested on murders charges under Lancaster. The last time I looked he was still sitting in jail awaiting trial. How many years later? If people who are accused of a crime or just arrested and prosecuted even if enough evidence does not exist. How about suppressed evidence. If that person does not have access to funds for an attorney. I can see the State of Florida's numbers go up higher for those who are wrongfully convicted. Namely Chad Heinz who was one of the cases I think Ms. Corey worked on. He has now been released with the help of the innocents project. Evidence was suppressed in that case. Florida has the highest number of people released from death row who are later found to be innocent. I wonder how many had already made it to the chamber. I think you need a prosecutor that has the best interest of both the victim and the accused. If not, one day you could be the accused and I'm certain you would want your rights respected as well.

Grand juries work behind closed doors. I've never been on one, or any jury for that matter. I just hope Law and Order shows us something close to the way they operate. I believe the States Attorney or Asst. SA presents the evidence and the jury then makes a decision and I think a recommendation to the SA about whether or not there is enough evidence to procede to trial. I think the SA then has the discretion as to whether to follow the Grand Jury's advice and procede to trial or not. Under Harry Shorestein I have seen too many cases where cases are not persued to trial where rich, powerful or political persons are involved. And in some cases sloppy work has ensured such persons win at trial. I only know Angela by reputation but I would be inclined to vote for ANYONE opposed by Harry S. and against ANYONE he favors. Angela happens to be an excellent candidate with the added plus of being on the side opposite Harry S. People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

I agree with you Walt. I actually tuned in a couple of minutes late but saw enough to know I am solid in my endorsement of Angela Corey. Jay Plotkin made an impression but it was not a good one, you could even say it was a bad one, I was in fact blowing raspberries at the tv at the end of the debate.
