Thoughts on Campaign '08
One thing is certain – no one can say that Campaign 2008 is boring. Like at least a couple of other bloggers, I have a keen interest in local government. It seems the campaigns have stooped to new lows in order to get their candidate elected. Even on the national level. Who would have ever imagined that Paris Hilton and Britney Spears would be involved in Presidential politics? If I were John McCain, heads would roll. If he approved the ad, maybe his head should roll. That ad certainly didn’t enhance his image in my mind, and I want him to win. The Sheriff’s race has gone down a road that makes me uncomfortable. Disgusted is another word that comes to mind. I know much worse has been done in the name of politics, but that doesn’t justify this incident. Salacious, prurient gossip. Good job Folio. So that’s what “alternative press” means. News – Jerry Springer style. Regardless of the facts – something that 99.99% of us have NO idea of – this incident has taken on a life of its own. After we all get tired of jumping to conclusions, maybe we will still be able to focus on the real question of who will be the best Sheriff for Clay County. Fortunately, most of the other races seem more respectful (boring?). I thoroughly enjoyed the forum in Clay Hill Monday night, and learned a lot about the various candidates. It helped me confirm some decisions, and even made me change my mind in one race. Fortunately, the Sheriff candidates discussed law enforcement and not “he said – she said”. For that, I was grateful. Politics is a full contact sport, and “if you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen” – I know. But there are still a few of us – I hope – who prefer that candidates and their campaigns stick to real issues and conduct themselves with at least a modicum of class. Apparently, that’s too much to ask of Folio.

Bax, Good to see you're back. I do agree with you. This has been a mess. It has become such a mess that if I see anything about animal control or the race for sheriff I don't even bother clicking on it to read. The actions of some bloggers have just degraded any worth these subjects deserve & trying to sort through the mess for facts has become a hopeless task & waste of time. Thankfully, through experience, I can rely on a handfull of bloggers whose past contributions actually show that they did some research, have experience & actually know how to convey that information to others. For the rest, well, thank goodnes, we all have a scroll feature on the computer, a chanel changer on the remote & the ability to turn a page. Sad state of affairs. But it does beat the heck out of the alternative as any news about the censorship of the internet in China lately has shown. Add me to the list of people who agree with Angela. We do need informed people who care. Getting there seems to be the problem. JATFUR. Rich K

I think I read somewhere on here that the Taylor campaign group was upset at Beseler for using the Sheriff's Office as a back drop for an ad. I wonder what they think about the fact that Taylor was standing on the corner of Kingsley and 17 this morning in front of a CCSO vehicle? And no the vehicle was not there for traffic support. Baxley a true democracy work best when you have an informed citizenry. Its hard to have an informed citizenry when most of the things being discussed are the things that you mentioned.
As I've said before you have always been a great advocate in working to get the citizens involved in their government and being informed. Glad your forum turned out well.
