Fending Off My Conservative BretherenMaybe some of you have seen &/or heard the news reports that reporter Ron Susskind has a new book out that purports that the Bush administration ordered a fabricated message to the CIA that, in effect, said that Sadaam had WMD's & had a conection to Bin Laden. This, in turn, gave him the reason to wage war, without the benefit of constitutional dictates that only Congress can declare war, against Iraq. Now, any of you who have been on the blogs for any length of time know that I am absolutely no fan of Bush & Co., may they be spit upon by the masses. On the other hand, I have some questions & observations. Mr. Susskind was interviewed on "The Situation Room," hosted by Wolf blitzer on CNN. On every question, he kept saying, "In the book, it explains," this or that. This leads me to some conclusions. One. If he had any kind of actual evidence, he would have had a legal obligation to notify the appropriate authorities. After all, he is alleging high crimes, possibly treason. Two. By his continual replies of "in the book, it shows," indicates to me that he is mainly trying to sell his book. Three. Do I think that Bush & Co. are capable of doing such a thing? Absolutely. Look at the record of the crimes of the administration. Four. After learning of this book & the accusations, the WH claimed that it was absurd. Problematic to the situation, first reaction, they did not actually deny it. They threatened no action whatsoever against the author. Bottom line. We have a very uncomfortable situation. Pelosi has kept impeachment off the table even though there is a growing tide for it complete with tons of documentation. We should also look to see what agency or agencies are going to get very nervous if & when evidence of the accusations rise to the surface. I don'tknow about you, but in the words of an old Chinese saying, we may be living in very interesting times. JATFUR. Rich K Submitted by SoloVoce on Wed, 08/06/2008 - 8:37pm.
Mike, Supernatural, superstitious entities, real or imagined, won't be of any help. Humans created the problem, humans will have to solve the problem. Me. I'm waiting to hear of any evidense, which so far, has been woefully short & non existent. But that is for tomorrow. After all it's just another day. But wouldn't it just be the cherrie on top of the sundae? JATFUR. Rich K

I too have been disappointed in GW on some issues. I honestly hoped and beleived he would do great. Personally I would give him a high "C" or maybe on a good day, a very low "B" (just over the C edge). As I sit and think a bit about it. I think that with all the Anti-Bush feelings in congress, combined with it being a democratic majority congress, and an election year. That if there was hard evidence, and proof of high crimes or treason regarding GW, they would go for it without hesitation. If congress had all this evidence and proof and did not impeach for high crimes or treason it would be a dereliction of their duties to the American people. And if discovered later by the public that they failed to act would do great damage to their party. I don't think the Dems are that fool-hearted. Solosaid "Four. After learning of this book & the accusations, the WH claimed that it was absurd. Problematic to the situation, first reaction, they did not actually deny it. Does that make him guilty? Submitted by SoloVoce on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 8:16am.
On accusations. Of course I am not in favor of guilt by accusation. On the other hand, if there are enough accusations coupled with, & this I consider most important, evidence that supports those accusations, investigations should be held to see if a crime was committed. In a situation like this, if it were me being accused, I would #1, lawyer up in a New York second. #2, if I were innocent, challenge the accuser to bring evidence of my guilt while, #3, I would have my shyster lawyer figure out how many laws the person is breaking, can we sue his butt off &, more importantly, #4, how much money can I get? I am, after all, a capitalist with just a touch of mecenary thrown in for seasoning. There is another option which is what Bush has taken. #1. Denounce the accuser & accusation then, #2, drop it from the public radar. That usually works well considering the sound byte mentality & comprehension/retention factor of the general public. On impeachment, the Dems & Pelosi. I posted an entry some time back about this. I think it came from a political commentary or story, I don't recall. But the commentary basically said that considering the many wrongdoings Bush is accused of, he couldn't do them alone. The story puts forth the idea that most Republicans & some Democrats aided Bush in one way or another. Given that possible scenario, those same people would be very hesitant to see an official evidenciary process leading to impeachment because sooner or later, their own names & possible complicity would surface. Viola! To date, no impeachment. Rich K

Bush has basically done the right thing on the War in Iraq, Afganistan and Terror, yeah he messed up in other areas, but on this war, he was right on and still is....... Submitted by All4One on Fri, 08/08/2008 - 3:19pm.
For those interested, you can go to the National Public Radio website, (NPR), and listen to the interview with the author of "The Way of the World". It's the same book that Solovoc is talking about. The interview details the conversations that occurred when the memo about WMD's was written. The danger in holding two terms is that lots of people have an opportunity to retire, while you're still in office. That's what's happening to Bush. Lots of people are talking......... Smuncey, I'm not sure if you caught one of my replies in another blog, but I mentioned a book I started to read titled, "Reclaiming Conservatism, How A great American Political Movement Got Lost--& How It Can find Its Way Back," by former member of Congress Mickey Edwards. I just finisheed it & personally, with the exceptions of where he pointed out how conservatism got derailed & how Bush has failed this country & conservative ideals, I think you might like it. Obviously, the two of us have different opinions on not only the war In Iraq, in particular & Bush in general, but the conservative ideals Rep. Edwards put forth in his book show how much current politicos have abandoned them in search of power for powers sake. BTW, I find that I totally agree with the original ideals of conservative ideals. As I said before, I can't understand why anyone wouldn't. But the devil is always in the details. All4one, I listened to the interview on NPR, among others, & I still think that this book doesn't pass the smell test. Whenever the author was questioned, all he said was to "read the book" or "in the book." As far as I can tell, he offers nothing in the way of evidence, so my red flag goes goes up. Personally, I think his main mission is to sell his book. But that's just my opinion. JATFUR. Rich K

Solo, I heard a similar interview on O'Reilly's radio show. You, O'Reilly and I have the exact same interpretation about Suskind being in it only for the money. Solo;
One can only hope that this is not true. God help us (OK whatever diety if any) if it is.
I already feel like I made a mistake voting for him the second time around. I don't want ot think I made one voting for him the first time around too.
