A Lost HeroI ask each one of you to take a bit of time away from the polical blogging and pray for our Sailors, Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guardsmen. This past Saturday night we lost a hero who was proudly serving our country in the WORLD'S GREATEST NAVY. AWCS Sidney Smith passed away from cardiac arrest at a young age unexpectedly. I ask that you take a moment and pray for his family and friends for comfort during this time. I also ask that you pray for all our service men and women serving our country and fighting to keep our freedoms that we seem to take for granted. Thank you. The number of Amercian service men and women who've died in Iraq is now more than 4,100. Sometimes we forget the forest is made of individual trees, all with family and friends waiting for them back home. Thank you for providing one specific name to add to the general prayers for all who serve. Michael S. Mann michaelsmann@comcast.net

The family has my sympathy. As Marsha said it is never easy, but when it is younger siblings or a child it is especially hard. In 26 years I saw too many shipmates snatched from our midst way too soon. Know that he had friends that will remember him for the rest of their lives. I've always thought one of lifes most difficult tragedies is for Parents who have to bury a child. As much as none of us have the promise of drawing our next breath it is out of the natural order. My own parents have buried three of my siblings, my own daughter lost a baby the day she was to be born. Last year a cousin of mine was killed in a wreck and I don't believe my Aunt is going to recover at all which compounds the tragedy because she has two other daughters and grandchildren that are still alive, and emotionally they have lost their Mother.
I lost my first husband to a heart attack, undetected heart disease from negligent care from the military. I pray this is not the same sort of situation. It's very hard to get over the anger from something like this.
Losing someone is never easy, no matter the circumstance. Family, friends and those who served beside him all have my deepest condolences and I will pray they're comforted now and during the long days ahead.
Packy thanks for remembering the Coast Guard, since they do not serve under the Dept of Defense they're often left out of the recognition they so richly deserve.
