Jacksonville Public Safety Officers Committee
As there are bloggers on MCS with tons of information---Can someone please enlighten me: WHY did the Jacksonville Public Safety Officers Committee recently mailed the Adverse Rick Beseler Campaign literature? WHY are they JPSOC coming across county lines to send campaign fliers? Do they not have enough political climate in their own county (Duval) to be involved with? And, I am curious---How did they receive Clay County Voter's names and addresses? This voter information is only given when a candidate qualifies with the Clay County Supervisior of Elections. Mike Taylor has proudly proclaimed himself to be the best candidate for sheriff because he is endorsed by the labor unions. They are in fact working feverishly to get him elected. These are the very same unions that worked against your recent property tax decreases. Remember the newspaper and television ads by the unions telling us not to vote for those tax decreases, because of all the damage it would cause to the police, fire and education causes? The voters saw through that and decided that government needs to live within its means, just like the rest of us. And that is exactly what Sheriff Beseler has done. He has cut out the frills. The unions wanted that two million dollars for the union members. They curse the day that Sheriff Beseler gave it back to us. Submitted by x-files on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 2:06pm.
I am member of the FOP in clay county, how ever I do not support Mike Taylor in any way form or fashion. I feel sure that Javksonville gets all their imformation from the F O P in Clay County. Mike Taylor comes to every F O P meeting in Clay County and speakes at every meeting. He also gets any imformation that he wants from the F O P. He has planned his election with them. You are right, the union and the F O P owns Mike Taylor. I am sure you can figure out the rest if Mike Taylor becomes our next sheriff. Also, some of the F O P members are beginning to see through Mike Taylor and pulling their support from him.

Why is Duval County so interested in the beltway? I never vote for a candidate endorsed by any Union.

Marsha, It's all politics. Duval FOP Pres. Cuba doesn't like Beseler. Taylor is backed by Clay FOP. All the FOP's stick together. Thankfully, all the members don't think the same. Submitted by Angela on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 3:36pm.
If Mr Taylor is elected. He will leave the ranks of the FOP and become a member of the Fl Sheriff's Assoiciation. Which in my opinion is equivalent to a union with less member. Submitted by OldTimer on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 3:51pm.
Angela, I hope that you are correct about Mike Taylor leaving the ranks of FOP if he is elected, because the consequences of him staying in bed with them would be disasterous for Clay County. A sheriff has to be a manager first. For sure, if Mike Taylor is elected, there will either be a lot more unhappy deputies, or a lot of unhappy taxpayers. Neither one is good. Submitted by Angela on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 4:02pm.
They join the ranks of the Sheriff's Association and Beseler is a member. They protect their own and what they see is best to protect their union. They are no different than the FOP they just represent a different group of people. The Sheriff's Association is a powerful lobbyist group in Tallahassee. I don't think they are concerned with the taxpayers pocketbook. They are there to lobby for their cause. I don't think you pick one union over the other union. Usually the taxpayers are the ones that lose in the end.

Would changing the Sheriff to a hired position rather then elected change that, or is that one of those irritating facts of life?

The Sheriff for Miami Dade is appointed but he is still apart of that group. Submitted by Angela on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 4:32pm.
I'm not Sam and I believe that type information should be protected information so I've not reviewed the facts. Other than what was reported in the story. When he attempted to escape he probably used a police tactical maneuver on him to prevent him from running away again. Now if you would like to discuss some of those maneuvers and weapons being abusive then that would be another blog. Submitted by vicedr on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 5:23pm.
Sounds like the kid had a role model to teach him how to treat people and how to lie to cover it up.
how you treat people and how to lie to cover it up. The punk should have been arrested the first time. The girl was under the legal age of consent. If there was enough evidence to arrest then he should have been prosecuted. In the only case Taylor made statements he admitted his intent and how it was denied but somehow that doesn't satisfy any of you. Sounds like that beach incident was a foiled attempt to do what he did to the other girl after the car show. Obviously the whole report is not in the article but there is enough there that shows the punk broke the law.

From which planet do you hail? When he attempted to escape he probably used a police tactical maneuver on him to prevent him from running away again. And you would know this how? Oh, that's right- you said probably. Bless your heart.. Submitted by Angela on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 5:31pm.
Well its how he was trained to act in a situation. Most people act off instinct when in situations. That's why they have training and I don't think when they go home they just forget it. Submitted by OldTimer on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 5:32pm.
Sam, you mentioned the abuse allegation against Mike Taylor. I really need some help from other bloggers understanding what is already out in the press about the circumstances of the alleged abuse. If I remember correctly, Mike Taylor supposedly admitted to striking his son, causing his son to fall into a bathtub, and also admits to throwing his son to the floor in the lobby of their home. What confuses me is something I read, supposedly Mike Taylor's own account, about he and his son then holding each other for hours while they prayed together. Mike Taylor's son then supposedly said something to his Dad about appreciating what he did. Does anybody have the news source on that? If so, I would like to read it again to make sure I have it right. My big concern is when his son reported the abuse. Was it after he supposedly thanked his dad for hitting him twice? I'm not trying to be cute with these questions; I would really like to know. Thanks. Submitted by vicedr on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 5:37pm.
I've only been reading these blogs for two days, but I've gotta say Angela you are way out there! Incident reports are always public information, names redacted. Or is that a conspiracy too? What did Taylor promise you? He's promised everyone else something, why not you? Truth is that if there was enough evidence for an arrest then the kid should have been prosecuted. Let a jury decide if there is enough evidence. Most likely there was or FDLE would not have presented it to the State Attorney and to the Governor. The punk probably will get charged if Angela Cory gets in there. You are trying to disect a newstory that did not give every detail and defend the attacker and his family. Sounds like Susan Armstrong tried to be as complete as she could and still not be liable. I read her story about the hazing and I don't recall her even mentioning his name. Conspiracy theory? I don't buy it. This is all just messed up. I agree these girls deserve justice. I'll bet theres dozens of victims. Submitted by OldTimer on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 5:39pm.
Im sorry that my abuse question is out of order, folks. I corrected some punctuation and then it threw the whole thing to the last post. Submitted by Angela on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 6:00pm.
Nice to meet you too. I promise not to you call you stupid or nieve. Evidently you think if Angela Corey gets elected they are going to just start sending her a couple more million to add to her budget to work all these cases that everybody wants sent to court. It ain't gonna happen. But hey that's your dream not mine. Even with Corey the majority of cases will continue to be worked out in plea deals. Those they don't feel they can win they will not charge. Plain and simple.

Thanks, Maridock. I found that article, but there was another one, I think from down-state, and I'm kicking myself because I haven't been able to find it. The article that I'm trying to find had all of the details about the points that I mentioned. Submitted by younglife on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 3:49pm.

They are a "527" Political Organization located in Jacksonville. The contact person is Nelson Cuba who happens to be the President of the Jacksonville FOP. The question should be, "Why would this group care who is Sheriff in Clay County?".

I received another flyer in the mail today from the Jax Public Safety Officers labeled "Vote No to Sheriff Beseler". Sounds like a lot of stuff Taylor has been saying. It went in the trash!

I put a note on it asking them to take me off of their mailing list because I was tired of them stuffing my mail box with their nonsense. Due to my job I've been to that FOP building several times in the past but after their stance on this race I will no longer participate in their events. I don’t know the answers to your questions, but I would like to point out that I got a Mike Taylor Palm Card in my mailbox the same day as the Jacksonville Public Safety Officers Committee handout. Also, if you compare the literature on them both, you have almost identical arguments against the current sheriff.
I have a question of my own. I heard that election law does not allow candidates to send out flyers/palm cards randomly to homes. I have never contacted the Taylor campaign, nor have I given money for support so they should not know me from Adam. Is what I heard about random mailings fact or fiction?
