Reynolds ParkSomeone else mentioned Reynolds Park in a Blog some time ago so I figured I would go out there and check it out. I had never been there before and I was surprised. There are acres/miles of property out there, even a runway, and a lot of it is right on the beautiful St. John's River. There are industrial businesses out there but it got me wondering. This is some prime real estated out there on, and near, the St. John's River. I talked to a friend who told me some developers have discussed interest in developing the land to things that everyone in Green Cove could benefit from and enjoy. My question to the city counsel would be What steps have you taken, or will take, to help make something like that a reality? Hey, maybe with some help from city counsel, we could have our own little "Jax Landing" type complex there or something. Lord knows it would benefit the city's economy. Reynolds Park is in the City of Green Cove Springs and has been so for years. Not the county. Verification can be obtained from Lee Bentley in the GCS Planning and Zoning Department at 529-2200. Mr. Bentley can also provide a map of the exact areas which comprise the property lines. Last year around October the city annexed the property to the west of the park along Hwy 16 to include the old J.M. Manufacturing property, wooded area on the north side of Hwy 16 and the Hess Station at Hwy 16e and Hwy 17. Reynolds Park is privately owned and part of Clay Port Inc. They have some ideas about future development which have been discussed with the city council. Give the Port a call and ask about their future plans. Sorry, but I don't know the number. If you didn't know Sunny, Reynolds Park was formerly a naval base some 40 or 50 years ago. It was a training base and home to a mothball fleet of ships. Alot of history there. Mr. Bentley can also give you a detailed history about the base. He's somewhat of a history buff. Submitted by finder on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 6:00am.
Thanks Snookie. I was looking at the Property Appraiser's site and picked up the wrong piece. Mike Heemer Submitted by joeriley08 on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 10:12pm.
The reynolds park area has been considered for some time for development. The old port (piers) has been looked at for "high-end" condos and some retail shops. On the west end of the "piers" supposedly there was to be some sort of resort On the south side of hwy 16 there was some talk about possibly creating another "fleming island" type of development. I beleve that alot of the plans for this area have been put on "hold" right now because of the housing industry "down-turn" The right person to talk to about this area would be Don Boles (or Mr. Bentley) Submitted by Sunny123 on Wed, 07/23/2008 - 5:23pm.
Yes, I was pretty sure that Reynolds Park was in the City limits. I was just wondering because that would be a great economic opprotunity for the city and us, the citizens. I know it is up to the owners of the Reynolds property, and a developer, but the city counsel could certainly take steps to make something like this a reality (such as tax breaks and rezoning). Maybe Mr. Mayor can grace us with a few words on this subject. People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

If I'm not mistaken, nearly all of that area belongs to Clay County not GCS.
