Flim Flam In FloridaOn 07.07.08, JD "Dan" Weisenburger (JDW08) posted a blog titled, "Religious Freedom" about some items coming up on the Fl. ballot this November. One of the items was about the end around tactic that former Gov. Jeb Bush is behind in overturning a Fl. Supreme Court decision concerning school vouchers. Basically, Bush wants to amend the Constitution so that your taxes will pay for vouchers. History has shown three things. Vouchers have gone to predominently Christian schools, they violate the principles of the First Amendment of the Constitution & have done nothing to fix the original problem, namely, failing public schools. Another viewpoint on this can be found on the web site of Americans United For The Separation of Church & State, www.au.org. If you're interested in how Bush & his crowd want your money to be spent, go to the site & in the upper right hand corner you'll find a picture with the July/ August issue of Church & State. Click where it says to read the issue & scroll down to the story titled, "Florida Flim Flam." In it, a local retired Baptist minister is included in the interviews. I hope you'll find it helpful. Marsha, I'll read this directly from my copy of Church & State for confusion free falderal from me. "But Amendments 7 & 9, which are slated to appear on the state's November ballot, will do just that." It refers to "the public funding to religious & other private schools with no accountability." Basically, it also mirrors the way faith based initiatives have been set up, which is why the religious right got all sweaty about their waist bands when Obama said he would make changes. Although these are two different issues, there are similarities. There is no accountability or transparency. Any more questions, I'll be happy to help as much as I can. JATFUR. Rich K

#9 is not great but #7 is a real deal breaker. This is going to be a can of worms if it passes. There are so many holes in this thing you couldn't use it to rinse Rigatoni. I just love the name. 'Religious Freedom'. That's on the same par as 'Florida Marriage Protection Amendment'. Mike Heemer Submitted by SoloVoce on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 5:56pm.
Mike, As I said in the blog by JDW08, we still have FORMER Gov. Jeb, "My Way or the Highway," Bush, with whom to contend because he & his cronies are attempting to remove the pertinent amendment from the Fl. constitution that says public funds will not be used to fund religious programs. OY! Such a pain in the tukass. Now I have a taste for a hot pastrami sandwich. JATFUR. Rich K People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |
