So...........OK. It's been a slow, quiet, holiday weekend & an equally slow Monday. Just waiting for the next round of rain, wind, light & sound effects. This was the best that I could come up with. Sorry for ending that sentance in a preposition. I've noticed something in the past 6 months to a year that has me confused. It's conversational & the surprising thing is that instead of coming from the usual knuckle dragging squad, it comes from the mouths of some highly educated people. Teachers, politicians, scientists, leaders of congregations, business & even some Democrats. Not to worry, Republicans were represented also. Here's the situation. Two people are having a conversation, usually, a person is interviewing another. Interviewer will ask a question & the interviewee will start off the answer with the word, "So." Doesn't matter what the subject matter is, time of day, season or surrounding. Is this something new? If it is, why didn't you guys tell me @ it? Have any of you noticed it? If you haven't, PAY ATTENTION! There might be a test! I haven't seen this in print, but I have heard & seen it on TV & the radio. What's up with that? I'd appreciate being clued in if this is a new trend. JATFUR. Rich K Related: SoloVoce's blog | login or register to post comments | printer friendly version | Tags: Speech

Lily, My blog was basically a fall back topic. There were a # of topics I felt merited my attention, including one I saw on CNN @ the upcoming lawsuit in either North or South Carolina (sorry, basically, I forget which ) concerning their proposal to introduce an "I Believe," license plate. But actually, I thought of my fellow bloggers & basically said, NAAAHHH! Why bother them after a nice, albeit, damp, noisy weekend. Basically, to answer your question, yeah, I'm alright or all right or even cool, not to mention, sometimes, far out, actually. In the mean time, keep your ears sharpened to interviews to hear the subject of my blog & offer your opinion, fer sure. Basically, JATFUR. This is somewhat of a new trend as far as I can tell but if you want pure annoyanxce, about the continual use of "basically" in every answer? And when it isn't "basically" it is usually "actually" sprinkled into the conversation.
What I believe it comes down to is complete lethargy in conversation. Many (far from most but "many" is enough to annoy) seem way too lazy to conduct their thoughts through the Proper English tunnel before their words inflict harm too other ear drums and minds. Speaking of laziness, try to take a count on the question "Are you alright"? I think nearly every one hour drama on television and certainly in 99% of the movies, at some point this infernal question is asked almost as if it were a Congressional Mandate.
So, actually, I would have to say that is basically it. :>)
