Proper Language Usage

As I have climbed upon my soapbox many times before about the proper usage of the English language, such as the non word "co-conspirator" versus the proper "conspirator" (one can not conspire with oneself) and the especially egregious treating the word "gender" as a synonym for "sex", here is a list to help you all. Gender is a description of a word as either masculine or feminine, sex applies to the reproductive ability of living things. Most of you know that but certain "editors" miss this an awful lot. I did not create this list. It was sent to me. Enjoy!  ;>)

Gender of Inanimate Objects You may not know that many non-living things have a gender. For example:

1) Ziploc Bags -- They are Masculine, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

2) Copiers -- They are Feminine, because once turned off, it takes a while to warm them up again. It's an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons are pushed.

3) Tire -- Masculine, because it goes bald and it's often over-inflated.

4) Hot Air Balloon -- Masculine, because, to get it to go anywhere, you have to light a fire under it and, of course, there's the hot air component.

5) Sponges -- Feminine, because they're soft, squeezable and retain water.

6) Web Page -- Feminine, because it's always getting hit on.

7) Subway -- Masculine, because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.

8) Hourglass -- Feminine, because over time, the weight can shift to the bottom.

9) Hammer -- Masculine, because it hasn't changed much over the last 5,000 years, but it's handy to have around.

10) Remote Control -- Feminine. Ha! You thought it'd be Masculine. But consider this -- it gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it, and while he doesn't always know the right buttons to push, he keeps trying.

So, I go to read Fred Catchpole's answer to FTDOAAWM and lo and behold his Blog about the Beltway and the Bust is gone. ACCESS DENIED.

Am I going to got in a tizzy? Not since I've been taking my blood pressure med. I can't imagine anyone doing this on purpose.

I can only think that it was an accidental consequence of running a test on the explanation that Jonathan gave us.

I did send Jonathan a suggestion that they make the Report Abuse button require you to be logged in and capture the user's login when they hit it. That would help prevent accidents and it would let Jonathan contact the user to see what their issue was with the blog.

BTW Lily, I loved it. Especialy the remote.

That was a keeper, Lily.

If you like that offering you should like "Tale of Two Brains" by Mark Gungor.  Look for it on Youtube.

Dont' worry, it's clean  humor.  I would put it on here, but I don't know how.

As my girls would say, it's been a hot minute since I had a good laugh.

Rich you almost sounded a little like the Governator.

Testosterone twit: A man trying to pull a subway on one tire with a hot air balloon and  while carrying a hammer in a ziploc bag along with his sandwich that won't ask for directions.  He also has a hard time keeping up with the remote to begin with. Laughing

In the words of well educated and respected Sen. Kennedy. "I paaked my ca in havaad yaad". Those Leter R's are very tough to pronounce.

Even smart people talk differently depending on culture, region, education and so on.

To assume one was not smart or poorly educated by the way one speaks would be a foolish assumption in my opinion.

There happens to be many smart people that choose to speak ebonics, don't let that fool you into beleiving they are dumb.
