sandbags

After watching days of news showing crowds of people in the central US filling sandbags, it occurred to me to wonder why no enterprising soul hasn't invented a machine to fill sand bags. It doesn't look like it would be rocket science and there sure seems to be a need.

Bob,

That's a pretty good question.  The only explanation I can think of is that the need doesn't come up with enough frequency to warrant the start up cost. On the other hand, another question that might be asked is not only why do people decide to live in an area with obvious dangers, (Flood plains, earthquake zones, hurricanes, dought, fire mudslides etc.) but why in the world would they even consider rebuilding there after the known disaster strikes again & again?  Go figure.  JATFUR.

I do remember hearing about this a few years ago.

That sackmaster is a step in the right direction, but what I would think it should be is something where you dump a load of sand in a big hopper, put a big stack of sandbags  in it as well and stand back as it spits out filled sandbags.
