It's A Good Ting, Mon

Yes, that was said in my best best Jamaican accent.  You'll just have to take my word on it.

I know that I've touched upon this subject last year & others have commented on it before, but recent events have confirmed my claims. With these blogs, we do have a treasure in our midst.  Why, you ask?  Let Uncle Rich splain it to you.

As I have mentioned, my to favorite topics are politics & religion.  As I have also mentioned, I've tapped into other blogs on these subjects.  To give you an example, I've tapped into the NY Times, Washington Post & a few other little known blog sites.  I've tried to listen to Rush a bit more & if I had a late softball game, I caught some guy on the radio from San Francisco by the name of Savage, if that is the correct spelling.

Now I have to admit that I rarely found what would be called, "liberal," broadcasts, but the overwhelming radio broadcasts were conservative in nature to say the least.  Not surprising at all.  According to media statistics, the majority of print & radio talk is conservative.  Also, no surprise, as I've mentioned, when I'm in the truck or at the keys, as now, I listen to National Public Radio.  I do it for a very good reason.  Here comes the splainin'.

Regardless of the topic, on the radio, in the newspaper blogs, the lesser known blog sites, it is mostly "The other side is evil.  The other side is always wrong.  Our side is always right."  I make no apologies when I say that that is no way to communicate.  Period.  If for no other reason, the law of statistics & the law of averages don't support it, plain & simple.

On the other hand, as I like to say, while listening to NPR, I liken it to reading our blogs.  A variety of subjects, local politics, religion, animal control, school systems & today, even touching on a genealogical search.  Shoot, where else can you go to get a discussion on avatars, hmmmm?  No pontificating, at least compared to what I've heard & read on the radio & other blogs. No yelling.  There's no yelling in the blogohood.  And I know that some have compained @ hearing the same old subjects.  But one has to realise that this is a community/county blog.  Of course the same subjects will come up repeatedly.  That's part of the mission statement.  But where else can you go to get information, IN DETAIL, complete with research, facts & figures, that concerns all of us on a local level?  No place I know.

So OK.  I've given my PSA & sucked up to MCS, Lamar, Jonathon & all the others responsible for allowing us to stand up like "RAT", point our fingers & give our opinions.  Just thought you should know. I now give control back to the participants.  But please, always remember & don't ever forget.  Resistance is futile.  JATFUR.

A good thing indeed - all sources of "input" are good indeed.  As we have had discussions here before, you know my feelings for some of the wacky liberals out there but I always learn something from trying to listen to them.  Just like Solo tries to listen to Rush (just for the record - I have trouble sometimes listening to Rush) - but I always learn something no matter what.

Now - NPR - the only problem I have there is pure monotonous white noise that practically puts me to sleep.  Reminds me of the hums of shipboard life!  I too listen at times to NPR, but usually have to be on the road with copious amounts of caffeine.

Regarding MCS - I would not have a clue about local politics, CTLACS, beltways, 5+2, etc... with the MCS blogosphere.  The county could only improve if more citizens at least read it occasionally.

Maybe we can require a MCS account in order to vote?  No, probably not...

I must politely and respectfully disagree that conservates dominate print media. I think this link may show a more acurate picture. (see link below)

I agree with all the rest of you remarks

CCC,

Why for you do that to me blog boy?  It's been over 40 years since I learned Latin & haven't had a chance to speak it since most who did speak it are dead.  And have been for centuries.

I wouldn't put NPR into the classification of white noise, at least not in general.  I like the local & national news, special features & especially the car guys.  But for something approaching in depth analysis on a wide range of subjects, I find it difficult to top.  Now when they get into the lives of performers, or poets, or how a certain book & author is JUST OH SO SPECIAL, I AM OUTTA THERE.  On the other hand, I love the car guys, Prairie Home companion & a slew of others.  After searching the dial for over ten years, I haven't found anything that even comes close.  It boils down to  two things.  It gives a wide variety of subjects & tries to give at least both sides of the story.  The entertainment factor is a great freebie.

I agree with your last two paragraphs.  Let's face it.  You can't get the wide range of interests & in depth knowlege on local interests.  If you know of one, give us a clue.  This is a great resource, mainly because of the people who contribute.

Finder,

Mike, something tells me that between the two of us, we have watched WAY too much TV.  Ain't it great?

TH,

I apologise, but I searched the files on my memory stick on the computer & I couldn't find the original source.  What I can tell you, & I'm going only by memory, is that it came from a media, in house, national survey in @ 2005-2007 time frame which said that at least in PRINT publications, conservative views were in the majority.  However, on the other hand, I did come across an article in the NY Times on 11.06.07 that said according to ratings, (nielson?, I'm not sure) on cable news networks, the views were starting to lean to the left thanks mainly to the popularity of MSNBC.  O'Reilly is still the  most popular.  And here, as I have in the past, will make the distinction that the numbers indicate that he is the most watched, not necessarilly the most accurate, just the most popular.  It is an important distinction.  Thanks for the link.  I didn't know that.

Rick

No apology needed Sir, just an honest mistake. Sometimes I can't remember what I had for dinner the night before. Laughing

CCC;

Do you know how hard it is to find a Latin Translator on the net? Made my brain hurt. Well actually sometimes that isn't much of a feat. Thanks for the mental exercise.
