Camp Blanding Buffer

Did anyone go to the meeting in Keystone Last night? I was unable to attend due to a prior committment.  Unfortunately rumors are already flying about "eminent domain, taking property all the way to CR 214" ,etc.  So I would really love to hear from someone who was at the meeting?

I understand they are having another meeting May 7th in Green Cove.

Thanks guys.

I was there and it was a wonderful show of solidarity by the landowners.  The county commission and zoning board have not been totally forthcoming about their duties in this situation.  They claim that this ordinance was mandated by Florida Statute 163.3175.  What they did not tell us was that the statute ONLY mandates that they place someone from Camp Blanding on the zoning/planning board as an ex-officio, non-voting member.  Nowhere in the statute does it require or even suggest that a buffer zone be created; height restrictions on buildings; lighting restrictions; and the other items they list under Objective 1 of the proposed ordinance.  A legal brief was circulated among the participants of the meeting by an objective party and it clearly indicated that the courts have held in favor of landowners in situations such as this.  Further, the brief has been sent to a law firm in Jacksonville who has been contacted by some of the landowners already.

Each of the landowners who spoke were passionately against the proposed ordinance and pointed out to the commission and zoning board that what they are proposing is not required by statute; is illegal; is an attempt to annex private property without paying for it.  Thunderous applause and standing ovations were given to all of the landowners who spoke.  To a person, all of the landowners who spoke advised that they will join a lawsuit should the county proceed with this nonsense.  The audience roared their commitment to join as well, through applause and voice.

This is an unspeakable abuse of power by the commission and the zoning department and must be stopped.  I was one of the speakers last night and I repeat my commitment to use everything my husband and I own to fight this in court if Clay County persists in this - after all, we'll have nothing to lose if they proceed with this.  The current property appraiser, speaking as a citizen who owns land within the proposed buffer zone, clearly advised us all that OUR PROPERTY VALUES WILL DECREASE DRAMATICALLY should this heinous act be completed by people we elected.  The commissioners were also warned by all of the speakers that the voters will not stand for this and they will be out of jobs while having to defend a lawsuit if they proceed!

Gloriosky, is this the understatement of the month or what?  I would strongly advise we keep not only this statement in mind but utilize it to take a more active role in examinig the propoesed outer beltway. If you think the military may be overstepping it's bounds in this matter, just imagine what the county commission and the FDOT can do when we are not looking.  They have made no bones about wanting to grab money from us to merely cross the Shands Bridge. They also want to co-opt Brannon Field-Chaffee, a road project already paid for by tax dollars, and give it to a privateer. How many times should we pay for the same road?
