Fire injures woman, displaces families in Orange Park

About 15 families were displaced by fire at an Orange Park apartment complex Thursday, authorities said.

A woman was burned and suffered other injuries when she apparently jumped from the second floor of her building at the Kings Tree complex in the 1800 block of Kingsley Avenue, said Batallion Chief Fred McCutcheon of Clay County Fire and Rescue. He said a preliminary investigation indicates a cooking fire in the woman’s apartment started the blaze.

Fire destroyed two second floor apartments and six others were damaged by smoke and water, he said. Firefighters were mopping up about 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The fire was reported just before 6:30 p.m.

Red Cross spokeswoman Christian Smith said about 10 volunteers from the agency were at the scene to offer assistance to families that were displaced.

I just gave the information to a friend who is moving and wants to donate some of her household goods, and my husband has just cleaned out his closet - good clothing not worn anymore.  I bet we all have some of those items (except I just donated to the Disabled Vets).

Thanks for posting the specifics so we can help these folks.
