iN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW OUR COUNTY CODE ENFOECEMENT ELITE ARE AFTER ANNABELLE FOR HAVING A SUPPORT OUR TROOPS BANNER UP AT HER BUSINESS.

Annabelle is with out question one of Clay Co's staunches conservatives and supporter of our military.

This is another example of our arogant beaurocratic government at work. I hope 10,00 people show up to support our troops  AND PROTEST OUR WONDERFUL LOCAL GOVERNMENT.

I WILL BE THERE AND HOPE YOU WILL TOO  10: AM

Submitted by stryker on Fri, 03/28/2008 - 10:33am.

Oh YES!!!!  I'll be there and like you, I hope at least 10,000 Wink show up.  At least we will be seen, if not heard.  Maybe we could line College Drive from Annabelles all the way to Blanding, waving our American Flags and holding our signs up high.  Now that would surely draw attention.  My thought is, if our local government really, really, really wants to inforce the sign ordinance law, then start with those who have not been in compliance for years.... leaving Annabelles alone till all the others are down.  By then, our troops will surely  be home.  Smile

Till 10 AM tomorrow,   Stryker

It gives me the chills to think about College Dr. being lined with patriotic citizens waving flags in protest of Annabelles being targeted when there are hundreds of bandit sign violations in the county.

I agree that she should be left alone until at least the current violations that have been ongoing for years are taken care of. I can think of numerous violations that I see on heavily traveled roads that are just ignored.

Go Annabelle!

Check the ordinances, before you decide on what to do tommorow.  It may be a violation of ordinances to gather in a public place without the proper permits...

Sunflower, if my memory of my long ago civics class is correct,I believe that freedom of assembly is guaranteed under the Bill of Rights.  If my tired old brain isn't mistaken I also remember it being number one and that it was also talked about free speech.

I would also venture a guess that they also have permission from the owner to "assemble"on her property.

I can't imagine that any of the signs or activity will fall under the ordinance you cite. I would think it might be alot like the show of support for the last Honor Air flight.  I was there on the side of the road with my family and a homemade sign (tacky--but surely patriotic!)

Smile So I say, wave those flags and signs!  Show your support for every generation's heroes!

And yes, you are correct......the Bill of Rights does guarantee the 'right to assemble' and you ventured a correct guess.  Permission has been given by the property owner to assemble on her property.  So, come by and wave at us if you can't join us.  We will be there, supporting every generations heroes, which by the way includes 3 generations (that I know of) in my family, oops 4.....mine as well.

I don't know if we have every generation but we have had quite a few--It is Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, and Viet Nam, Desert Storm, and OIF at our house.  Somhow we missed Korea.

Which is it?  Support rally for our troops, or protest against the sign ordinance?

If it's a rally to support our troops, count me in.  I'll be there waving the American flag that hung on the wall over my son's bed for 14 months while he was in Iraq.  That would make the 3rd rally here in Clay County I have waved it at.

If it's a protest against the sign ordinance, I'll pass.  Because an illegal sign has a patriotic message does not make it legal.

A rally for the troops AND a protest against the sign ordinance?  How clever.  I bet it makes the news again.  Whose special interests are being served now?  It's interesting how many people will ignore a valid law when it is wrapped in the flag.

I vote we allow churches to ignore the sign ordinance so they can better advertise their Sunday services.  It is for religious purposes after all.  Then I'd like my favorite restaurant to be able to ignore the ordinance too.  Their food is really great.  They even have apple pie on the menu.  Then, . . .

 Bax

Great observation.

I am with you, I love our troops very deeply.

But this critter smells like wolves in sheeps clothing.

Its just to bad that the issue of support for our troops, is being attached to the wanttin breaking of the laws in the county.

I have not made any comments on this thread (until now) and you addressed one of your comments to me.  It's ok - at least you kept it clean.Smile

My remarks should have been directed to JimmieMaxie--my bad.

Bax and Truth, As far as a protest vs. patriotism?  That's funny-you think there is some deep, dark hidden agenda? About a sign ordinance violation?

To little ol' me it just sounds like folks may have taken notice because of the patriotic message on that businesses sign and decided to show their support for the armed services...am I missing something?  I must be, I do not think everything is a big conspiracy or someone has an ulterior motive. I may change my sign in on MCS to Pollyanna.

I was informed it was a 'Support Our Troops' rally....and that's what I'm going to do, wave my flag in support of our troops.  That's what I hope everyone will do, so Bax hope you will join in and I do hope you are wrong in your questions.  TH, you may be right, you may be wrong, I don't know.... but before you go making assumptions, why not take part and see for yourself.  I'll form my opinion when I get there, not before.  I'm from Missouri, the show me state.  You can always leave should it not be what you had hoped it would be.  I will!!!!!  On the other hand, I will not miss an opportunity to show my support for our troops and I hope you won't either.  Clayvoter may have just hit the nail on the head......we'll never know till we see for ourselves.

Waving my flag in support of our brave men and women who serve this country in time of peace and war.

It just seems slightly strange that annabelles is hosting this support the troops rally. I'm not in non support of the troops by any means, but if the intention is to show the county an i'll show you type of thing, then it's not about the troops anyways the event just carries that phony atmosphere.  If annabelles had gotten into trouble over a business marketing related issue or something other than that in regards to supporting the troops in the first place, then there would be no problem.  I just think that rallies should be hosted by people where the event is entirely about the troops and the support they deserve without county political games coming into play.

Then again i could be completely wrong, there may be no intention of the sort, it's just strange, irregardless i'll be at work.

stryker - I was responding to ex-oficio's remarks. He/She is the one that said "I hope 10,00 people show up to support our troops  AND PROTEST OUR WONDERFUL LOCAL GOVERNMENT."

It will be unfortunate if the rally is taken advantage of to protest a silly sign violation.  The whole sign situation is getting way too much attention, especially when compared to really fighting for the flag.

I'll be there waving on the corner - supporting the troops.  And the County sign ordinance.
