Good Riddance

So, John Thrasher is calling it quits. I guess this means there are no more shady deals left for him to to take advantage of. This guy has to be the biggest opportunist to ever to descend on Clay County, ever. It was a blessing that he was never intended to be a permanent replacement for Christy Fitzgerald, Now let us pray he takes his partner in crime, Harold Rutledge , with him. The best thing for Clay County is a fesh start with all new commissioners. Wipe the "slate" clean, so to speak. But I still want an investigation into this garbage tax scheme. I can understand the state attorney not wanting to actually do any work on the subject since it would take time away from politicking. Why isn't the Times-Union doing anything about it?

I have a suggestion.  There are times when citizens have to take things into their own hands.  This is one of those times.  Set up meetings in different parts of the county and organize citizens who are opposed to garbage tax.  Then as a group, file suit.  Only then will you start to see some action being taken.  Maybe you could find an attorney who would take the case "Pro Bono" (for public good or welfare without conpensation).  Good luck!

The answer is simple, some good ol' boy in Clay County stands to gain by the garbage tax...no no one will do anything about it.

At least the garbage tax actually does perform some kind of service, but what about the hidden taxes in Clay County?

Take a look at the following statements that tend to come in every 30 days:

Wired telephone bill -  local tax....has to be at least 5-7%  monthly - forever

Satellite TV bill - try and figure out the rate on this one.....but it's there for good ol CC

Cable TV bill  5% possibly greater, once again impossible to really calculate

Cell phone bill - at least 5+%, its difficult to tell the way these taxes are added.

Utility Bills - 5%

Look at these taxes that happen any time you open your wallet in Clay County.

Local option gas tax   5+ cents per gallon

Local option sales tax 1%

Miscellaneous taxes that aren't usually paid by Clay County residents.

I never understood how the county could tax on cell phone service since the cell towers all pay taxes in CC, without a homestead exemption and at a commercial tax rate.  The same thing goes for a satellite signal delivered from space, does Clay county own the air above our heads?

Remember these taxes were in the majority brought to you by your friendly neighborhood local Republicans, or was it Democrats, it is hard to tell anymore.

So, compared with the other taxes in Clay County, the garbage tax is a real bargain, cause at least the county is good for taking out the trash.  If it is correctly bagged and placed on the curb the appropriate day, and oh yes, if the neighbors dogs don't get to it first.
