LETTER FROM RAVINES RESIDENT RESPONDING TO ROY LYONS PETITION:

Saturday, 15 March 2008

My Opinion – My Letters Section

Lyons used same tactics at Ravines that he is accusing citizens group of using.

I find it interesting that Roy Lyons is complaining about the manner in which the voters of Clay County were asked to sign the CTLAC petition. The tactics were the same used at the Ravines by Lyons and his group intent on protecting the beauty and life style of the Ravines from the devastating act of potential development.

Now that the beauty and lifestyle have been preserved, many of the residents are complaining that they only signed the petition because they wanted to get rid of the petitioners. Many were also misled or misinformed by the idea that someone was waiting in the wings to buy and improve the golf course. That was often repeated as a validation for bankrupting the owner.

Bankruptcy was one of Lyons’ stated aims. As far as “standing up and giving the full story,” when it was suggested to Lyons that (former golf course owner) Ken DeBusk be invited to do so, Lyons declared that if the owner stepped a foot on his, Lyons’, property he would call the police. There was a rally held in Lyons’ back yard and no opposing view was ever presented.

I would invite the residents of Clay County to come and enjoy the preserved beauty and tranquility of the Ravines, the friendliness of the neighbors, maybe play a round of golf and marvel at the wisdom and planning ability of Lyons.

I have to say that I totally agree with Ann. I never had a chance when the "Petitioner" came to my house. All I heard was a lot of mumbo-jumbo about a "16 hole golf course and 155 tract homes". I was lied to. Then, I continuously read in the paper about this Roy Lyons character who is representing the residents of The Ravines.

I never authorized this guy to speak for me. I was never invited to his house to meet with potential golf club buyers. I would hear about these (what appeared to be secret) meetings with potential buyers through the rumor mill.

I don't golf but I would love to see the course reopened. Both for the folks here who love to golf and for the sake of the home values.

My fear is that this Roy character (who happens to be on the Association Board now) is going to run his trap until the course is so dilapidated that it either never reopens or it DOES become 155 tract homes.

I thought the RCA was staying out of this fight with the exception of making sure the dues owed to the RCA were collected eventually.

Isn't it a conflict of interest if this Roy person is the VP of the RCA and he keeps sticking his nose in the business of trying to sell the golf course?

If any more meetings are held regarding the golf course, EVERY owner in the Ravines should be given the opportunity to attend. WE ALL HAVE A FINANCIAL STAKE.

For the record...and I will make sure the proper authorities get this message too...ROY LYONS DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ME NOR HAS HE EVER BEEN AUTHORIZED.

Sorry, this went from a blog about how one person can be such a hypocrite, to another Ravines Rant...
