HYPOCRITE IN CLAY

LETTER FROM RAVINES RESIDENT RESPONDING TO ROY LYONS PETITION:

Saturday, 15 March 2008

My Opinion – My Letters Section

Lyons used same tactics at Ravines that he is accusing citizens group of using.

I find it interesting that Roy Lyons is complaining about the manner in which the voters of Clay County were asked to sign the CTLAC petition. The tactics were the same used at the Ravines by Lyons and his group intent on protecting the beauty and life style of the Ravines from the devastating act of potential development.

Now that the beauty and lifestyle have been preserved, many of the residents are complaining that they only signed the petition because they wanted to get rid of the petitioners. Many were also misled or misinformed by the idea that someone was waiting in the wings to buy and improve the golf course. That was often repeated as a validation for bankrupting the owner.

Bankruptcy was one of Lyons’ stated aims. As far as “standing up and giving the full story,” when it was suggested to Lyons that (former golf course owner) Ken DeBusk be invited to do so, Lyons declared that if the owner stepped a foot on his, Lyons’, property he would call the police. There was a rally held in Lyons’ back yard and no opposing view was ever presented.

I would invite the residents of Clay County to come and enjoy the preserved beauty and tranquility of the Ravines, the friendliness of the neighbors, maybe play a round of golf and marvel at the wisdom and planning ability of Lyons.

I have to say that I totally agree with Ann. I never had a chance when the "Petitioner" came to my house. All I heard was a lot of mumbo-jumbo about a "16 hole golf course and 155 tract homes". I was lied to. Then, I continuously read in the paper about this Roy Lyons character who is representing the residents of The Ravines.

I never authorized this guy to speak for me. I was never invited to his house to meet with potential golf club buyers. I would hear about these (what appeared to be secret) meetings with potential buyers through the rumor mill.

I don't golf but I would love to see the course reopened. Both for the folks here who love to golf and for the sake of the home values.

My fear is that this Roy character (who happens to be on the Association Board now) is going to run his trap until the course is so dilapidated that it either never reopens or it DOES become 155 tract homes.

I thought the RCA was staying out of this fight with the exception of making sure the dues owed to the RCA were collected eventually.

Isn't it a conflict of interest if this Roy person is the VP of the RCA and he keeps sticking his nose in the business of trying to sell the golf course?

If any more meetings are held regarding the golf course, EVERY owner in the Ravines should be given the opportunity to attend. WE ALL HAVE A FINANCIAL STAKE.

For the record...and I will make sure the proper authorities get this message too...ROY LYONS DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ME NOR HAS HE EVER BEEN AUTHORIZED.

Sorry, this went from a blog about how one person can be such a hypocrite, to another Ravines Rant...

Well well well, here you are back again and with another personal attack.  I hope this blog gets pulled.

I was never approached with a petition of any sort that I can recall, except for perhaps there may have been a petition when JGLC tried to develop the Par3 which is a construction landfill and would have been detrimental to anyone investing in a home on that land both in money and possibly health.  Damn all of us for trying to stop something so inconsequential as building on a landfill.

I have to question the letter that has an unknown author yet you call Ann.  Did you copy and paste that one or did you do what you did to my email, copy and paste portions along with the reply and create your own brand new document?

Whoever you are, you're a coward.  If you have a beef with Roy Lyons why don't you use your real name?  If you're a resident you know all you have to do is go to the website for the Ravines, he has an email address available. If you have a legitimate beef with Roy Lyons it would go much further for you to identify yourself.  Accusing Roy of running Jacksonville Golf into Bankruptcy is a liableous statement and ridiculous.  Jacksonville Golf ran themselves into Bankruptcy with poor management and risky business that didn't pay off, it happens everyday.

If you want to make an accusation of conflict of interest where is your concern over the conflict of interest that exists in our county goverment with multiple positions held?

Were you at the meetings of the Planning Commission and the BCC?  I was at both and spoke at one.  Were you there to speak for yourself?  Not once have I heard Roy Lyons represent that he was speaking for all residents, he's just involved and saying what alot of other people think.

If you're truly concerned about the welfare of the community why not get involved rather then just rail at people who have?

You joined this site to attack me and dissapeared for awhile when that did not work and now you're back attacking Roy Lyons.  The ONLY thing Roy and I have in common is that we live on the same street and were both against any further residential development which put us on opposing sides with whom?

Readers take your own best guess about who this person is, or who they're representing.  It's so obvious to me, as it was before, that I won't even bother mentioning the name.  Or perhaps there is a greater attempt to manipulate then what first appears.  Perhaps the same person penned both the letter and the blog.

I hope everyone sees this blog for the trash that it is.

It's people like you that made me ask my Husband to withdraw any efforts to buy this course.  I have personally never lived in a neighborhood where there is so much petty backbiting and negative behavior.  There are a great many things that have contributed to the current situation and the community collectively is responsible for a good deal of it.  Karma, as they say is a bitch.  Every single person that lives in this development is blessed beyond measure and there should be peace and harmony here.

A great many residents, even the majority are wonderful people. I don't even know most of them. But the percentage of spiteful, petty, two faced, self righteous, and nosy inhabitants are like a black cloud hanging overhead.

So far as who owned the course and who owns it in the future aside from further residential development I say to all of us living here, it's none of our business.  If you want the course open then support it and don't look for every petty way you can to criticize and tear it apart.  Be glad that we did not pursue buying this course to the end because if we did and you came to me with petty complaints I'd tell you when you start paying the debt service you get a vote, otherwise mind your own business. When I want your opinion I'll ask for it.

I hope the course does come back for those who love the game and are also strapped due to the loss of value.  I also hope that people will learn to work together and identify the line where something is none of their business.

A few weeks ago in a conversation with another resident about the reputation of the this community and how it has gone downhill.  It's my opinion that decline didn't start with Jacksonville Golf, it was already on a downhill slide because I know how we were treated when we built our home in 2003.

Whoever you are Livin n Clay, you're a classic example of what is wrong in this community.

Had to do some racking of the brain and digging in the recycle bin but I knew I had seen that Roy Lyons letter before. Of course my lovely bride knew exactly where and when I had seen it.

Duh! It was in the paper version of MCS on Saturday 3/15. Whether this was a type it from MCS (it is verbatim) or just copy and paste from the copy on her machine I can't say.

But the letter in MCS was certainly not 'Author Unknown' it was Ann B. Wiggings, Ed.D. Ravines. Hence the, I have to say that I totally agree with Ann. comment.

I don't really have a dog in this fight but hate it when people play BS games on the blog.

It took me a little while (and some 'encouragement' from a fellow blogger) to figure out that if I was going to comment on something then I needed to have the guts to stick my name to it.

If the only way you can defend your position is from behind a curtain of anonymity then you really can't defend your position. It's real easy to throw rocks at people when no one knows who you are.
