Time Out (Please, I'm Beggin' Ya)

I dare say none of the people who devote their time, energy and resources to rescuing animals; none of the people who work directly with the animals for the county; and none of the people who have been blogging incessantly about Clay County Animal Control care more about animals than I do.  I would love to see Animal Control work at peak efficiency, which would include never euthanizing an animal in the face of a viable alternative.

How to reach that goal of peak efficiency is, like all things government, worthy of debate.  But what's been happening on MyClaySun's website has far exceeded real debate about Animal Control and, if it continues, those bloggers (from either side of the issue) will only succeed in making the public so tired of the issue that they just want it to go away - and that will not bode well for the animals everyone cares about.

So, please, I'm beggin' everyone.  Let it go away.  Not forever.  Just a break so everyone can catch their breath.  Take the weekend off, and go on a picnic - somewhere far away from a computer keyboard.  Explore those parts of your life forgotten since this issue exploded onto and began dominating MCS.

Just a timeout - so the rest of us can enjoy MCS, too, because the rudeness you've directed at one another isn't confined to just yourselves.  You may be unaware of some aspects of your actions that are extremely rude to everyone else who likes to blog or just read the blogs of My Clay Sun.

We're tired of opening the blog page and seeing Animal Control in four or five of the 10 blog topics and pushing other people's contributions aside in your repetitious pettiness.  Counting this personal plea, there will be FIVE Animal Control blogs of the 10 on MCS' page.  The rest of us are also tired of not being able to see who's discussing any of other people's blogs because the Animal Control whizzin' contestants have eaten up the "Recent comments" column on the right of the page with all the "You're fat!" and "You're skinny!" kind of contributions.

So, please, just until Monday.  Have mercy and let the rest of us enjoy the MCS playground without you bullies dominating everything.

Gosh, I too, am so tired of CCAC dominating the Internet waves. You said it best, Mike...Not that it's not important but give it a rest.

And the huddled masses raised their voices to the heavens and shouted AMEN! Praise be to the one that voices the feelings of many. (Sorry UR, I just couldn't resist!)

Thank you Michael. Will they listen? Probably not, but one can only hope.

I certainly don't see any of them listening to reason no matter how many of us try to engage them in an intelligent conversation.

I think in the long run that there is only going to be one way to stop this insanity. Shut down their accounts and ban them from the site due to use violations. My guess is this would not be the only site that they have had problems with.

Mike,

Unfortunately, what you say is very true.  It may have gotten a bit tedious & rude which is a sad fact because as you say, it detracts from the importance of the issue.  But to add to your comments, I say Amen, brother.  JATFUR.

Finder,

I would not advocate the shutting down of any acconts, at least not for these reasons.  As irritating as they might be (A hearty AMEN from me) they do enjoy the protection of the First Amendment as do the rest of us.  Whether we're talking @ multiple blogs @ local government, school boards or even POLITICS or RELIGION, as long as we adhere to the rules & break no laws, no one should be discriminated against.

It's been said many times by various blogers.  If you come a cross a blog that does not interest you, you have the ultimate right to scroll past it.  Good advice & not too much to ask.  Now @ Bush & my views on religion............JATFUR.

Solo;

I agree with you. Maybe my frustration is/was showing a little.

I probably put my alligator mouth in motion before I engaged my canary brain when I mentioned shutting down accounts. If they really start shutting down accounts it might be me. As you have indicated before, censorship is a slope that shouldn't be taken.

The problem is that I am actually interested in what is going on and what could be done at CCAC. It seems like every time you think you have reached a point where there is some real communication going on it takes a hard left turn off the track and does a crash and burn.

Then you have the one that is not satisfied just adding a comment. He has to copy the same thing to a new blog to make sure everyone sees it. Oops! My frustration is showing again.

Finder, have you been dianosed with a new strain of bird flu?

You're right, though, about the folks who start a new blog in order to answer the questions posed in another.  Things like that take away from other bloggers.  It's easy, and a lot more fun, if everyone plays fair.

It's one of those lingering things. A couple doses of humility and it goes dormant for a while. Then, just when you think you are completely cured. BAM! It's back again.

You can forget about animal adoption.  I just read the MCS mullet wrapper edition (paper).  All this noise from the blogs got their attention.  You win.  The fee for adopting a dog/cat has been set at $50.  CCEC = Clay County Euthanasia Central is now in business.  If you think anyone is going to pay $50 to adopt a dog or cat, you can forget about it.  That fee must have been set to appease everyone.  Now the cats and dogs will be treated well for the 3 days, before they are put down.  You wanted accountability, now you got it.  Now maybe we can give this tired old topic a rest.  The animal lovers better have a lot of garage sales if they want to rescue cats and dogs in Clay now.   End of blog.

This must be the work of the Animal Control Director. I guess this must be part of her new plans and ideas. With several over-paid employees and lawsuits coming out of there. You think they would do something before we have another one of those ugly scandals that cost us mega money. I guess no such luck.

Oh well I guess we could talk about the housing market. We have been nominated in the top 10 fastest-falling markets in the US. We earned 3 places in that record for last year.

Florida nabbed three spots on the list of 10 fastest-falling markets, with Tampa down 11.7%, Miami depressed by 10.6% and Jacksonville in an 8.7% decline from last year.

Look angela, or should I say Susan, it is painfully appearent you have a personal vendetta against Mrs. Goon youself. Maybe you had a run in with her or animal control in the past and lost out then too. No one is over paid there, no one is getting wealthy, and that is a fact.

As for another ugly scandal just keep your eyes open I am sure someone else will come down the pike because animal control has taken them to task, and you can jump on board with them. Save all you talking points though and you can just cut and paste when that happens it will save you some leg work.

Good luck with your next counter productive quest.

Obviously even please doesn't work. They're like the Energizer Bunny, they just keep going and going and going and ......

I used to have a 2 year old that acted like these people. Fortunately he outgrew it by the time he was 3.

It's like a bad movie. You know it stinks but you just keep watching thinking it has to get better and have at least a modicum of redeeming value. Unfortunately this epoch just doesn't seem to get any better, and is no closer to the end than when it began.

Even a stupid dog will learn after a while. I'm going to force myself to turn this one off and assume that it eventually died a natural death.

Goodnight Mrs. Calabash wherever you are. (Jimmy Durante)

Sir:

I feel the frustration echoing from the group which is why I posted my apology to the group in an earlier posting, and my apology to you all still stands.

I have taken some advice I received here, and have toned down my verbiage used regarding this issue.

I will not sit idle and allow fabricated stories and twisted half truths being posted here go unanswered.

This is a public forum and everyone has the right to post their veiws and opinions, likewise everyone has the same right and freedom not to open or read any post that they disagree with.

This is a very hot button issue that I have chosen to involve myself in because I do feel strongly about it. There have been many topics discussed on MCS that I have no interest in, and have dominated the top ten blog posts. I do not, and would not tell the folks to stop their dialog. If the topic does not interest me I do not read it.

I will not go away, and I will be watching the posts. I will also rebut any false remarks made toward CCAC, It"s my right as a citizen with freedom of speech, and it's my duty as a friend to many of the folks at CCAC.

I will not go silently into that sweet goodnight.

Sincerly

Fifty dollars to adopt a dog or cat is not unreasonable. If you cannot afford fifty dollars to adopt a dog or cat you probably can't afford the pet to begin with.

The shelter/taxpayer has spent more then 50.00 housing and caring for that animal awaiting adoption.

If a person can't afford 50.00, what would make you think that the person can afford to give that animal annual vet care, proper diet, spay or neutering, and the like.

Along with pet ownership comes great responsibilty, taken lightly or without thought and dedication the animals just end up back at the shelter or on the streets.

When you go to any rescue group or safe shelter to adopt a pet they get a 50.00 or more "donation" fee thats how they stay running and pay the bills and stay "tax exempt.

When you go to CCAC and adopt a pet that mony does not go to CCAC it goes to the County and is disburst County wide. The budget CCAC gets annualy is all they get and must work with it and make every dollar count.

By now, TruthHurts, I don't anybody would expect you to go silently anywhere, anytime, despite everyone's pleas for just a couple of days without the continued bombardment.

What you've done is just dull everyone's sensitivity to your issue, shifting the "very hot button" to your own rude domination of the website that minimizes and hides the contributions of everyone else.

Certainly, dear, no one wants to take away your rights to access MCS and express your opinions.  The passion for your issue that you've demonstrated is actually admirable, as is your attempt to change the tone of your contributions.

But you've passed the point of being an effective advocate simply because the volume of your contributions overwhelms everyone else's efforts, including those that have nothing to do with Animal Control.  You will argue your points far more effectively, with a far more receptive audience on MCS, by first being considerate of your audience.

Your response to the $50 adoption fee, for example, is informative.  It could have waited until Monday because it's not time-sensitive, been just as informative, and given us all a brief break.

The point about not being able to actually afford a pet if the adoption fee is too expensive is excellent.  But think of all the readers who are simply tired of the issue and skip the response because it has your username and they figure it's just more of the same.

Use your rights, TruthHurts, but use them to advocate more effectively by remembering your audience and advocating less often.
