Pet Preview: Dogs in danger at CCAC
We've all been watching and listening to more and more stories and accusations about Clay County Animal Control's operations unfold. In reality, the best way for us to help these animals is to neuter and spay, and to give as many pets as we can a home. The dogs below face euthanization; if you can't adopt now, please pass this on to your friends and family! For full information, contact Clay County Animal Control, 3984 Florida 16 W., Green Cove Springs or call 904-269-6342. See more pets online at helpahomelesspet.org.

I touched on this briefly with Sunflower and in another blog, but the potential answers to animal overpopulation are always a double-edged sword. Breed restrictions are a step in the direction of mandatory spay/neuter programs, but seem to me to be largely unfair. The public thinks so too, making such legislation largely unpopular and as such, unable to pass the local government idea boxes. I'd especially like to see things change with vaccinations -- feline AIDS is way, WAY too prevalent in the First Coast. I blogged about a very interesting piece a while back -- "The Myth of Pet Overpopulation." (http://myclaysun.com/node/2124) I say check it out. It's not what you might think. There are laws limiting the number of pets a person may own, as well as what types where, but for some reason people continue to insist on cramming 30 dogs and cats and two ponies into their mobile home and then become irate at the animal welfare officers who take the filthy, malnourished creatures away. People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

You hit the nail right on the head ChanelMartin. The numbers of animals brought into shelters are way out of control
I would love to see laws change that would make Spay and neutering mandatory. another good idea would be laws that would limit the amount of animals a person could have. How many people out here in clay live next to a neighbor that owns 5 to 10 dogs that just run the streets, or have a small colony of feral cats non spayed or neutered and growing out of control. They claim they are animal lovers and then let the population grow and grow yet never ever see a vet, receive a single vaccination, and are genetically sick and deformed from inbreeding.
To a true animal lover its simply heartbreaking.
