Middleburg murder

Jonathan Williams of Middleburg was arrested and charged with fatally shooting his neighbor, shooting the victim's 14-year-old daughter in the leg and then threatening to shoot family members who tried to provide aid to the victim.

According to a police report, Buddy Picket took his three children with him to Williams' nearby home to retrieve $35 he was owed. Williams had his children knock on the door and request the money. Williams became belligerent, grabbed a loaded shot gun and shot Williams twice in the torso. One bullet hit the daughter's leg.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office responded at 7:40 pm Friday to the fatal shooting at 1522 Old Dine Field Road in Middleburg.

The daughter remains in serious but stable
condition at Shands Jacksonville.

Old Dine Field Road is located off of Hattie Nolan Road which is in the
area of southern Middleburg.

This is the first homicide in Clay County in 2008.
