Folio described a very disturbing story this week about the fact that David Owens and the school board attorney Bruce Bickner are not speaking. Owens has effectively isolated Bickner and disinvited him to staff meetings, etc. Bickner said he is concerned about how decisions were being made in this absence, such as public records requests. The school board members are trying to broker a truce. Trying to broker a truce . . . are your kidding me? With all the issues facing the school system in clay county, with 10 million dollars of debt and overcrowded schools, why are we sitting by and paying our superintendent and school board attorney to "bickner" like school kids. (sorry, folks, couldn't resist). I urge our school board members to show some leadership and let Owens know that this type of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. If Owens won't invite him to meetings, then they need to walk down the hall and escort Bickner to the meeting. The school board exposes itself to liability every day that this continues. I guess we know one person who won't be too upset when the election for a new super comes around.
