I caught the tail end of what I assume was some kind pf press conference or a Q & A session with Mike Huckabee. He was commenting on the flap with the Iranian boats & three of our ships in the Straight of Hormuz. Instead of turning this into a positive angle for the US, Huckabee decided to take the low road.
He reached into his official rhetorical BS bag & pulled out some jingoism, sabre rattling & threats. As I said, I didn't see the whole thing so I don't know what else he might have said. But consider this. We already have a president with a shoot first, think about it later (if at all) mentality who is frothing at the mouth, just looking for any excuse, not necessarily a reason, as is his track record, to start a third military action. Yeah, we & our military really have a need for that. We have incredibly bad relations with countries in the Middle East & a boatload of countries that not only despise us but are scared to death of not only the current administration, but a number of potential people looking for his job.
Huckabee could have taken the high road & killed two birds with one stone. He could have eased some tensions with Iran & some other countries & in the process maybe gained some potential voters by saying something like this:
I think a thanks & vote of confidence is owed to whoever was in command at the time & gave the order to wait & see, on alert at general quarters, instead of blowing those boats out of the water. To Iran, I say that we could have easily destroyed those boats & probably any of your ships in the area. We know it. You know it. But we didn't. Instead, that commander took a course of prudent waiting but still was capable of defending our sailors.
With a statement like that he could have accomplished not only what I have stated above, but show to our people & the Iranian people that we are not all war crazed aggresors. He could have done that & accomplished some really positive results. To bad he missed such a golden opportunity.
Obviously, the thinking processes & intellectual acuity is well above & beyond some people. Thankfully, it is well within the reach of some as the results now show. We definitely don't need another president whose business card says, "Have gun, will travel. No thinking required." JATFUR.
