FOP Union "debate"My FOP sources tell me the sheriff sent a letter 10 days ago to the FOP advising them he had a prior commitment and wouldn't be able to attend the FOP (union) sponsored "debate" on Jan. 3. The same sources told me the ruling from the special arbitrator came down last week and sided with the sheriff in the labor dispute. The Jan. 3 "debate", sponsored by the union, may be a lot like the one in Jacksonville on Dec. 3. The Times-Union called this a political rally for the union's choice for State Attorney.

Key That is my understanding. FOP had already received the letter concerning the sheriff's prior engagement when FOP union announced the "debate" here on MCS blogs. Perhaps they did not want to announce that the sheriff could not attend.

Interesting--I wonder why the Sheriff did not "release the results" of the arbitration? He gets in front of the press alot. You would think he would want the good press? I do not get it. Why wouldn't he make arrangements to be at this debate, unless he is afraid the the questions and/or other candidates? Or he is so confident that he does not need to attend? It doesn't sound good either way. I really would like to hear from the incumbent--the only time I see him is on TV usually blaming our rising crime rates on Jacksonville. I AM clueless and intend on going to the debate to learn/hear/observe. Wish the Sheriff was there so I could hear from him too. Submitted by stryker on Wed, 01/02/2008 - 12:52am.
and I too shall attend. Was looking forward to hearing from all the candidates as I know very little about Sheriff Beseler and nothing about the others, except what I read, which means I want to hear what they have to say!! Let's hope for a great turn out. Stryker People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

pioneer,
I heard the same thing last night from a retired State Trooper. I assume the debate will go on minus the presence of Sheriff Beseler. Is that your understanding, too?
