Property rights, responsability, and politics

Many of the blogs and responses to them touch on growth and therefore property rights. Zoning decicsions and other land use issues are the most difficult and important  decision made by an elected governmental official. That is why large land owners ie, developers invest most of the money that goes into a campaign.

I truly believe most people believe in an idividuals property rights as long as it doesn't degrade some one else's property. Occaisionally there is a difference in what is perceived as the common good vs. what's best for a property owner. Many such decisions are nothing more than a judgement call or a matter of personal prefference. Like in other area's of the law, right doesn't always win.

I think where most people oppose the  "growth industry" is the idea that much of the impact and up-front cost have been in recent years passed on to Government meaning tax payers. We are now expected to pay our "FAIR SHARE " of something we have no share in.Tax payer funded projects are going on all around us everyday to make growth possabile.  Many of us hope the new economy and realistic real estate market will correct or prevent some greed.

Then again it could mean a slow market may mean a larger "FAIR SHARE" for the great unwashed out here paying the bill
