Hitchcock-like Scary
I still think the single finest scene of a movie comes from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." It's the scene where Melanie is trapped in Mitch's house, with his mother an young sister. Hitchcock builds the tension little by little, then by leaps and bounds until you know exactly what those four folks in the movie felt like with all those birds trying to kill them. If you guys want to sit through frightening piece of computer cinema, I highly recommend one I found on School Board candidate Duane D'Andrea's website - electduanedandrea.com. Once you're on the home page, click on "Shift Happens." If you're like me, you'll find the tension building second-by-second. Michael S. Most of us in this county seem content to keep our heads in the sand and tell ourselves, “We have “A” schools. We don’t need to worry about our school system.” We are fooling ourselves and doing a great disservice to the children in this county. Complacency will have us sliding further down national rankings. What does an “A “school truly mean anyway? How well does the FCAT measure up against standardized testing in other states or other countries? If we are content to just be an “A” school according to the FCAT then we are not improving across the board.
I’m still amazed at how few computers we have in the classrooms and how little they are utilized. I have friends across the country and the state and when I hear about how in “Junior’s” 3rd grade classroom there are enough computers for each student I wonder why we don’t have them. Granted, just having computers are not going to make our students brighter or more educated. But where are our dollars being spent? How come in Clay County when you build a brand new school we immediately have portables along side brand new permanent structures? Is our planning ability that poor? There are a multitude of issues within our county related to its growth, education etc. I don’t know where to begin. Perhaps a good place to start is with some fresh new ideas and faces on the school board in Clay County.
“Shift Happens” is a video that I first saw quite a few months ago. If you take the time to finish it and actually think about it, then you should be very afraid for our country’s future. DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE IT FOR THE BETTER! Start in your own community.
I am… by voting for change…by voting for DAndrea in the 2008 election.
