As amazing as it seems, this year we will be spending (according to the news on T.V.) an average of $ 850.00 per person for Christmas. In other words we will feed our brain of propaganda, brained washed through commercials and the media, and we will be spending money that we really don't have. Some of us will even get deeper in debt and later on, we will probably pull our hair (more like in April) when the credit cards statements reality starts slapping us on the face waking us up from this "temporary state of mental stupidity".
Some of us will say "Oh well! At least I made my loved ones happy these Holidays". So true! However, you could have made them happy with less money and more creativity. Christmas had nothing to do with shopping remember? and Santa was created for kids!
Sitting in front of the T.V. is not very healthy on these days, not for the wallet at least! All these Sales "prices" everywhere and the continuos pressure of what you should buy and what not, tends to create a fake sense of joy and well being. Just watch at the advertising's with all those happy faces (adults, kids and even the pets!) dressed with fashionable clothes, and those toys that make our kids repeat 20000 times: "Mommy I "need" this and I want that!" or that latest electronic device "a must have" for the teenagers, Holly Bananas!
What is going on in our beloved country? The last time I saw the newspaper we were still fighting a war! We are going through an economical crisis so bad, most of us would have never imagined it could happened at home. And here we are! Being almost pushed around to spend money which we really cannot afford to spend.
So many families separated by this war and so much corruption flowing in front of our eyes, what so jolly about this? It's like an absolute collective insanity, a complete chaos!
Called me "Party Popper" called me "Scrooge" but honestly I believe we should be more spiritual than material these Holidays and very very cautious with our spending. According to some economist's predictions we are due for very difficult times and we should be "saving bread for May" (don't ask me what it means my mom used to repeat this over and over when my daddy's business was going to a dry season).
No one has the right to tell you how much to spend and where to spend your money, but give yourself a favor and don't get "dragged" by the Holiday's hysteria either! Nor pushed by that pre-created need to buy. We are compulsive buyers, no body escapes from that. We were raised to spend money, we are consumers before anything else.
However, let's remember the wise colony of the ants or even better the almost extinguished honey bees. Save for the future!... Enjoy the Holidays wisely without feeling guilty and listening to that little voice in the back of your mind saying: "I think I spent too much money". Be wise! Just a little healthy advise from a friend.
