Orange Park Town Council Elections

I would like to use this venue to keep all voters in OP informed as to the status of my campaign. We have contacted many great people in OP in the last 2 weeks and most are very supportive of my candidacy. Over the last 3 days I have spoken to no fewer than 200 of our neighbors and their support is overwhelming. My experience in the USN as a Navy Captain (O-6) when I was commanding VS-24 (Fleet), VS-27 (RAG), and SEACONWINGLANT (S-3 Wing) has given me many opportunities to work larger organizations as well as the sailors at the deckplate which make any operation successful. Additionally, my 3 year experience as a financial planner gives me the business background to know what makes a business run and gave me my first opportunity to sign the front of pay checks instead of the back. At FCCJ I run the Aviation Center of Excellence at Cecil Field where I supervise 28 personnel who have duties from custodial to strategic planning for the aerospace communities in the whole state of Florida. Socially, I am the President of Advent Lutheran Church and the Secretary of the Republican Mens Club of OP, as well as a member of the Westside Business Leaders Association in Jacksonville. I want to bring this experience to the town of OP where I believe the three most pressing issues are traffic, crime and economic development. Please help me help you by voting Renninger on March 13th.

I was on the political walking path all weekend and met some very nice residents of OP. Nearly all were extremely supportive expressing interest in maintaining and enhancing their quality of life in OP. In fact most were very supportive of and thankful for my personal approach to their local issues. As I have always done in the past, I will reach out to the public to get the "real" facts before I make any decision. I have learned a long time ago that staffs normally filter the information and either conscientiously or unconscientiously leave out some important aspects of any issue. Another aspect of my philosophy of investigation is that I use facts. Today a citizen told me that low water pressure checks done by the town involved flow rates. There is also a requirement for pressure to get a good analysis of the condition of the water main. Trust me, I will be there for them when electected. VOTE RENNINGER on March 13th.

JB has identified 3 issues he feels are important - traffic, crime and economic development. How does he plan on addressing these issues??? (extra credit for specificity!!)

These three issues are not new but need attention and the sooner the better. The crime issue is a problem throughout America and certainly here in our sister county of Duval. We need to be ever vigilant of the "leakers" crossing the border. What I am speaking of is the criminal element infiltrating Clay. Sheriff Rick Beasler states there are indicators that tip them off as to criminal elements marking their territory. We just need to be aware of these indicators and take measures to make it difficult for the criminals to operate. Lock vehicles, report unnatural events, avoid unlit areas, and the one that may have eliminated the last murder on Wells Road is never travel or work alone. This one precaution may have saved this young girls life.

Economic developement is a little more difficult, but a good example of doing nothing is demonstrated by the vacant Taco Bell on Hwy 17 which has been empty for nearly 9 years. Not only has it not generated any revenue for the town for a long time but it is an eyesore as it deteriorates in front of our very eyes.

Now on the the most difficult one and that is traffic. We have a few options albeit none that will totally solve this issue, but may help. Sequenced traffic lights will go a long way to get the traffic out of OP and onward toward NAS Jax or 295. We may even look at High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes for 2+ passenger vehicles or support use of river transportation which may come sooner than you think with hovercraft which are being built in GCS as we speak.

I would be happy to listen to any recommendations you may have as well.

One of the things the town CAN do to assist in fighting crime is to aggressively attack any signs or gang symbols - don't let any of this graffiti  last over 24 hours.  It's like the one broken window  syndrome. Let a broken window  stand unrepaired and the message is sent that in this neighbrhood, nobody cares. It's an invitation to crimminals

From the economic perspective the vacant Taco Bell brings up the question of why? Why is that piece of prime commercial real estate essentially abandoned? Is it something in town ordinances, or some action or inaction of the town that led to this?  The answer might be no, there may well be unusual circumstances with the property or the owner. What should happen is that the town should be actively involved in solving the situation, either through incentives or sanctions (or both).

On traffic, the town might want to look at the traffic lights on 17 with an eye to perhaps doing away with some of them. For example, the light at 17 and Mcintosh, one block north of the major intersection at Kingsley could easily go. People driving on Mcintosh that need a traffic signal to get onto 17 can easily get to Kingsley and enter 17 from there. 17 and Stiles is another traffic light that needs a close look.
