Bradford County Animal Control in Starke, Florida By debbiemrn - Sun, 02/25/2007 - 12:11pm

I am writing as a citizen and resident of the State of Florida. The Bradford County Animal Control is a nightmare and although it has been improved, there is so much that needs to be done still.

There was this wonderful write up about the sheriff and all of the work that he has done! What a joke! He has not done a thing to improve the lives of these poor animals and their plights! He is the one who is always pushing to have the animals killed. It is his goal to kill as many as he can before anyone finds out what he is up too! He is not at all animal friendly. He has been around way too long and he thinks that he is not touchable! But, as a public officer and a man who is elected, he needs to know that he is indeed being watched and he needs to do so much more for these poor animals.

Citizens of Starke and the surrounding communities need to actually go down there to the shelter and see what the conditions are like. It is pretty primitive to say the least. Nothing is enclosed. The animals are exposed to very cold temperatures, especially like we had with the last cold snap. There is a very high percentage that all of the animals are destroyed simply because they are there and that is the only reason and no other reason. God forbid that he should have to use up some of his budget to pay for dog food and water. Nothing else is done for these animals. None of them are provided medical treatment and the only reason that they were seeing a vet once per week was to be euthanized. Now, Tracey, who works there has the training to kill them herself personally! What a nice person she is too. No one wants to go there when she is around and this information comes directly from the people who have gone there to adopt or rescue.

So, please spare me the lies and the junk that was just written in the newspaper.....all one sided propaganda to make him look good and he is NOT!!! He needs to be jerked from office and not ever re-elected! Thank you.

This is to the author of this clip: Mark J. Crawford, Editor

Mark: Did you go there?!?!?!

You know, this is all fine and dandy, but you do not have all of the correct information. I want it made perfectly clear that the dogs are destroyed on a regular basis just because they are there!! This sheriff is NOT the wonderful man you think he is. The animals are killed just because they are there! And for no other reasons! If there are towels and blankets there, it is because I worked like a damn "dog" myself calling all of the local radio stations and pleading with the local church groups and calling the head of housekeeping at the local hospital to get these items with the last bad cold snap. Trust me, these dogs are not saved because of anyone that you wrote about. This is a HIGH kill shelter. If it was not for people like me and some local people there who work voluntarily to rescue so many, there would be a 100% kill rate there. This sheriff could care less about this shelter or these animals. The only reason he is looking at some good press is because he is an elected official and I will be very busy spreading the word that he hates animals and his goal is to kill whatever comes in to his shelter for no reason at all, simply because they are there!!!!

My cat was missing. After about 3 days I was starting to really get worried. I put up signs and looked around. I decided to go check out the Animal Control grounds.

when I got there they were really busy. The lady that took me to the cat section was very nice and concerned. There are so many unwanted animals there that I wanted to bring them home with me. Dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, horses...I really was overwelmed with the insanity of it all.

My cat was not among the others that were there. I left there very sad because of the fact that these animals will be stuck here unloved and discarded like a used water bottle(thats another story)

The people at the shelter were very nice. My hat goes off to them for taking care of these animals for the short period of time Frown

My cat did come back home, he was gone 5 days, darn him
