Can you believe it? Clay County Florida is #1 but not in the quality of life, education, weather, golf courses, church's BUT in the time it takes to travel US17 and Blanding Blvd. Wow! we Clay citizens can now brag that we are the best the Florida, for the longest commute time over 33 minutes to and from our homes. Boy am I proud, my chest is just bludging. I also believe we came in near the top in the country also. The article printed in Thursdays, Metro section, really tells it all.
Well almost all! They forget to mention that our BCC, planning, builders/developers, who pulled the strings of some present and all former Commisioer's, that created this boom-doogle. Where were their heads when this county exploded in the late eighties and almost to the present? Guess it just goes to show us what a one party county goverment can do with all the power and not be held accountable for almost two decades.
And you no what we deserve it. Why? Because we keep electing them without holding them accountable. They must have forgotten that they were elected to represent us. Goverment of the people, by the people. Let's take our county back qand have a reasonable commute to and from our homes. Not only a reasonable commute but a SAFE one at that.
I am glad to see others stepping up to the plate and blogging for a change in how things have been handled in our County. Welcome to the group of some dissatisfied customers. Where all input is welcomed.
I would encourage all to read the editorial by Lamar Thames dated today Clay Commute: It's well worth the drive. Then I would offer a challenge to Mr. Thames.
Contact Mr. Cannon and ask to work out of the Jacksonville Office for 2 months. You make the drive we the residents of the County are forced to contend with on a daily basis and write us an editorial.
Comparatively, yes. Students in Clay County are faring better than in Duval yet even at the best achieving high school (FIH), only 54% of students are reading on grade level. At Keystone, it's about 51%. Middelburg 34% reading on grade level and that's as atrocious as Duval County.
Real Estate numbers are in the start of reflecting what seems to be a reoccuring theme in the County. Of all the surrounding counties Clay County has the bleakest sales of them all.
We are beginning to talk about impact fees in the county. Remember citizens impact fees are for future growth just like school impact fees. They help in the future but we need results now. This is the talk about increase sales tax in the county to help those of us who are already here and have carried the weight and are being asked to carry more.
We need change, and we the citizens will need to be the ones who step up and make change.
