THE HON JOHN THRASHER LETTERBingo - I now have a copy of the above letter dated September 6, 2007! The letter was indeed paid for by Save our Constitution, Inc., (PC) and is so stated by the disclaimer on bottom of letter. It' s three pages plus the petition revocation form already filled in & ready for a signature. The letterhead says "THE HONORABLE JOHN THRASHER" and underneath in smaller letters "Former Speaker of The Florida House of Representatives". I wish all of you could see and read it. If there is a way to scan/post it here, advise so I can do it. One sentence on page three reads "Unless you want higher property taxes, higher utility bills and Florida scenic beauty destroyed by Big Developers, you certainly want to revoke your signature from their petition". After reading and analyzing the contents, I think Lesley Blackner of Florida Hometown Democracy was right on target! Over half of the population aren't as smart as you and me. I afraid in todays world what the people would ( or more importantly ) wouldn't do. We sure in a heck of a fix.

Alabayea, Did a self addressed stamped envelope come with it? If there is and I get one maybe I will put a copy of the HTD petition all filled out for Mr Thrashers signature and send it back. Do those things get weighed? Perhaps a few more could fit. Seems a shame to waste a perfectly good envelope. Submitted by Angela on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 6:43pm.
I would rather count on the people to make a better choice than what has been the status quo in the county. As Benjamin Franklin wrote, "In free governments the rulers are the servants and the people their superiors and sovereigns." The ultimate powers in a society, therefore, rest in the people themselves, and they should exercise those powers, either directly or through representatives, in every way they are competent and that is practicable. 'Malo libertatem periculosam quam quietem servitutem.' Let common sense and common honesty have fair play, and they will soon set things to rights." --Thomas Jefferson

Ex-Oficio, Your comment about you and Angela being smarter then over half the population bothered me yesterday and it's still bothering me this morning. It's hard for the portion of the population here that are using the blogs to inform the public and get them involved when that mindset keeps getting put in there with it. Is that not the way we're treated by Self-Serving Politicians "You lack the capacity to understand this issue" ? Would it not be more productive to try and explain and educate rather then insinuate there are those out there not smart enough to make an intelligent decision? While there maybe some out there who may lack the ability to comprehend I really believe they're very few in numbers. Most of the time it's just a difference between being informed, or uninformed. Most people can "learn" and make an "intelligent decision" provided they're not turned off and turned away by people who compare a "lack of understanding" with a "lack of intellectual capacity TO understand" I think I am fairly intelligent, perhaps in the broad sense of the term may even have "above average" intelligence but there is MUCH that I never knew that I have learned here from the bloggers with regards to goverment and politics. Personally I am offended when someone who does not even know me questions my intelligence. I always wonder where they get their measuring stick.

I agree with your treatise, Marsha, one can certainly get more with honey than vinegar. Ex's cavalier attitude, while understandable, should really be used in a private conversation. Lord knows, I have bitten my tongue (believe it or not) so often it's now got a zipper stitched across it. Speaking out loud damning half the readership won't help his cause. Taking this thought one step further, after outlining one's case for or against a particular point of view, what do we do with those who refuse to clasp common sense and continue on a destructive path. In some cases using a Measuring Stick Of Intelligence as a switch is the only way. ;>) For example, those who would stab their neighbors in the back by destroying a perfectly good bridge to give the rights to cross our own river to foreigners for another 30 pieces of silver? Merely informing them or even proving they are wrong does nothing. Especially when there is an ulterior motive involved. Of course, I still think Shunning is a great answer. lilyslore, This posting is so screwed up you might as well start from the beginning. You need to be saved because you ain't gonna be alive forever. Catch some sanity, lilyslore.

Whoa!!!!! Key2life, just a little out of line here aren't you? There is a line between criticism and abuse. In my opinion your post to Lilyslore crossed over to the personl attack side by a good margin. Did you just join the Rlyons camp of Thrasher lovers or did something else put a burr under your saddle? You have to be a little more specific here, because I have no idea as to the meaning or purpose of your post. Opinions about individual bloggers are OK I guess, I just wish you had stated yours a little less vehemetly. Finder

Finder I agree with you. Key2Life you posted two mean spirited entries on two different subjects in less then an hour, are the bloggers to be used as a whipping post for your bad mood? If you can't disagree with civility do you not realize your message gets lost, and perhaps with it some credibility? What was it Lily said that inspired such comments? Is it that you don't like the blog topic altogether? Since this site began I have watched Lily reel in her thoughts to express them in more acceptable terms for public consumption as we all have, or most of us anyway. One of the biggest cancers in this world is the lack of respect for others. Having a little tact goes a long way, and it's absence in an offensive rather then defensive posture has little to no positive impact on anything.

Thanks to both of you, Marsha and Finder. I don't know what bug crawled up her panties and the vitriol doesn't really make any sense to me. I decided awhile ago to completely ignore anything from Key as we will never agree on anything. I thought I was exercising good manners in not responding to anything she initiates. Everyone deserves their own little world to take shelter in but attacking JohnBoy and me with no coherent thought pattern reminds me of when I might act up and my mother would ask, "Do you have a geranium in your cranium"? Apparently the phrase may still be apt. I'm afraid she may well be a complete control freak and is easily aggravated by anyone who challenges here, not unlike our BCC. I am beginning to think she, too, like Harold Rutledge, Rob Bradley et al. subscribe to the same motto, Oderint dum metuant. "Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go."

Let them hate as long as they fear - Caligula lilyslore and I will find very few subjects upon which we will agree. Duly chastised, I will not respond to her posts as she has chosen not to respond to mine. It's not good relationship management but hey, there are some family members that come to the family reunion which you just avoid. It's easier than delving into the issues preventing healthy communication. I will take responsibility for not communicating in a positive way with her. I failed to do that. That has nothing to do with being fearful of lilyslore. In her dreams. People are talking about ...Here are the recent blog postings with the most comments. |

Alabayea this is what I blogged about in the Rlyons blog "Reply to the CTLAC email". The same comments that was in the letter.
"What a funny blog and sad at the same time. I will say, the first thing that came to my mind was a portion of the 4-page letter sent to those that have signed the petition. Maybe Thrasher should have reviewed the letter before it was sent out to the public or maybe he did. A statement from his letter, "Unless you want higher property taxes, higher utility bills and Florida’s scenic beauty destroyed by Big Developers, you will certainly want to revoke your signature from their petition".
"Then I had this mental picture of Thrasher as a lobbyist and working for the CCUA making big bucks when we the taxpayers get one of the largest increases in the CCUA utility bills in history. Okay, it is the evil electors (voters) that will increase the utilities bills if we vote in favor of the Hometown Democracy Amendment. Then we can't do any worse than Thrasher did as a lobbyist who gave us the largest increase in the history of the county".
This is why I feel the Hometown Democracy Amendment is so important to the people and why each person that reads these blogs should sign that petition and tell your friends.
This goes right along with the blogs Marsha has talked about the Ravines problems. The blog about a deed restricted community. I think a blog could be started about HOA and the power of a few against the community and they have limited oversight meaning those few people are Judge, Jury, and executors. Just read the Florida Statutes concerning HOA. C&R have saved the Ravines but the vote of a few commissioners may change that for the community.
I think the power needs to be turned over to the people. We are the ones who make these investments in our homes and our community and it's call taxdollars. Our representation has become very self serving at the detriment to the people on all levels of government.
I will say personally I find nothing honorable in the letter or the actions of any of the lobbyist.
