Categories

Dearest MCS.com-

We're super close to finishing our categories, but I have one question-

Would you like to get ride of the "blog tags" and replace it with only the pre-arranged list of categories, or would you like to have both?

For an example, I tagged this blog with both "awesome" and "categories". If we got rid of the "blog tags", I would have been forced to choose from one of our categories.

We can certainly keep both methods of categorization, but I don't want to confuse anybody.

What do you think?

JonathanBennett,

I would exercise my right for "choice." Let me add the blog tags as I see fit. The "Recent Comments" needs to be expanded to 20 places, if possible. That would give bloggers more time to review the most recent postings.

Thanks for all you do, Jonathan.

I'd like to echo Key2life's comments. Especially the one about recent comments. Sometimes if you log off for an hour and come back, you've lost the thread of where comments are being made.

By the way, I looked at some of the other 'Sun' sights. This one seems to be the most active with blogs and discussions. I think it is great. If you want to know what is going on, and how people in Clay county feel, this is the place to look.

Ok, good. I also think it would be best to choose.

About the recent comments: I have checked, and I see no way of increasing the space available for comments. You guys are absolutely right - if you jump offline for more than a few hours, you're likely to lose track of what was going on.

I will spend some more time today trying to figure out how the comments work and get back to you.

Key/Finder - you guys are absolutely right. We have other Sun sites, but none of them are as active as MCS.com. And I have to tell you - the amazing dialogue and content you all are providing has generated a lot of attention.

MCS.com, thanks to all of you, has become a shining example of how well a community-oriented Web site can work.

cause it makes it hard to choose when you have to use the drop down lists on the spotted pages. Sometimes my pictures don't fit into your catagories. When you get time you need to tweak those also...

for all you readers, thanks for reading I know a lot of people don't want or know how to blog but ya'll keep reading and one day someone will touch you in such a way that you will want to say something to someone about it.   If you are afraid of looking silly or stupid just look @ some of my blogs... and tell ur self " I can DO it" LOL I have been on IM's 2 long starting to take short cuts.   OK i think I am done now....

Tweaking the system

Jonathan I would prefer both ways’s too search, Tags and categories. My pet peeve on this site is football on Friday’s. Why do the reporters find it necessary too post all the high school football highlights on the main page of this blog site, when they already post the same information under the football category tab, (where it should be)?? It’s kind of redundant, don’t you think? If I want to read about football I will look at that category. The only thing they accomplish by doing it this way is, they blow a lot of good topics and ideas of the front page of the blog site, and get under my skin. What say you Jonathan??

Jonathan, the recent comment section is a problem; many times I have been carrying on a dialog on with a fellow blogger only to have the thread die because of recent comments, and the blog being shoved to the back pages, before they have a chance too see that a response to the thread was returned. And football Friday only adds to the aggravation.

Jonathan to lengthen the recent comment section, how about removing the, Who’s new section???
