Surfing Behind The TimesI've only come across the Daily Show with John Stewart a couple of times while surfing. But while doing something else I had a chance to see him for more than @ 5 seconds. I think I found me a new hero. Granted, he's not as funny as Rush Limbo or Bill Riley (sp) but neither is he as nauseating or dangerous. All hail the Daily Show! How could I have been missing this for so long? I never realised he had such respect & admiration for our fearless decider. Darn, he's good. Just not on my shoes! Where have you been? Seems it took a flamin' liberal to bring you back to the blog. And then, your response was so profound!!

I like both shows myself. UR, your confession of not knowing about The Daily Show makes me feel better about my Marx gaffe (see avatar). Too funny. Just get cable? I prefer Colbert to Jon Stewart. Jon just seems SO superior sometimes, it turns me off. He does excellent interviews, and I especially like when he has Brian Williams. I thought he was going to crawl onto Bill Clinton's lap and start kissing him. He sure as heck was kissing his a**. Sunflower, I'm an unabashed moderate that leans to the right. Liberal, conservative, moderate, communist - they're all just labels. I'm sure you're much more complicated than just being a "liberal". smunsey - you are way too predictable. Stretch yourself, you can do it. Limbaugh & Riley - twins seperated at birth. Guaranteed to drop your IQ if you actually listen more than a few minutes at a time. Speaking of being SO superior. Who died and left these hot-air bags as spokesmen for anything right of center? The more I listen to them, the further left I want to lean. That's what's great about The Daily Show and the Colbert Report. You can see fun made of both sides. Colbert does both sides - at the same time. He seems to channel Bill O'Reilly sometimes. He and his writers are genius.

Sunflower, There's nothing nasty @ claiming to be a liberal. Unless one is a conservative. But then all it is is a mirror game, nothing more, nothing less. As I said, previously, I only caught Daily & Colbert while surfing through. I'll pay more attention from now on. I watch Fox news along with the others. The news is the news whatever station you're on. When the opinions start, that's my cue to exit, stage right or left. Doesn't matter which. Bax, I knew @ the Daily show, just never stopped long enough to find out @ it. Haven't seen much of Colbert except while surfing. That will change too. Had cable for quite a while now. I just don't watch that much TV during the day except for AM & PM news, breaking news, a CUBS game, a good old movie on AMC or when I'm starting dinner. My wife loves it when I'm domestic, but I draw a very firm line & say no when it comes to wearing that cute, skimpy French maids outfit. Well, maybe for her birthday. I used to listen to Limbo years ago when my friend & I had coffee after working out. Can't believe I listened for so long. It took me way too long to realise just what an egotistical blowhard he was. When I first heard Riley I asked people if they were related by birth or whatever. Those two are really in love, or lust, with their own voices & opinions. I have to agree with Smuncey on those two. Chunk hurling time supreme. After seeing a part of the Daily show yesterday, he was doing a bit @ Bush using clips of his contradictions, goof ups etc, I wished I could write for that program. I mean when I write @ Bush on the blogs, I don't do it as often as I'd like to, I tone it down considerably & definitely ease up on the language. After all of the previous reactions, I wouldn't wany to loose any of my fellow bloggers to apoplexy, vapors or swooning, especially CCC or you. I promise to check in with the Daily Show & Colbert more often, especially after the glowing reports from all of you. Even you Smuncey. What the hey, if you hate them that much, there must be something good @ them. Now I have to switch over to e mail so I can read the NY times & Washington Post. Couldn't ya just curl up & go coma? Personally I have never watched the Daily Show for more than a few minutes, kind of like watching a bad SNL skit if you ask me (who would have guessed?) I don't care for him - 2 reasons - and they are of his own words: 1. When pressed by Tucker Carlson on why he went so soft on John Kerry during an interview but hounds conservatives, Stewart gave some incredible insight into his own show and what it really means. "Stewart responded that the media is in dismal shape if "[it is looking] to Comedy Central for [its] cues on integrity"." 2. To show his place in objective and professional discussions, Stewart went on to tell Carlson (may offend some) "You’re as big a dick on your show as you are on any show." He is pure entertainment, but wants to be taken seriously on his own terms. You can't have it both ways. I look for him to team up with Alec Baldwin any day now to write serious legislation. For the record, I can only take Rush and Hannity in small doses. Submitted by RichK on Thu, 10/11/2007 - 8:51am.
CCC, I hope that you didn't think for a minute that I consider the Daily Show or Colbert hard, legitimate news. They are on the Comedy channel, where they belong & are, apparently, doing a great job. Yes, they do have a serious segment on now & then, I've been told. But by & large, I'll watch them for the humor, the satire, & the manner in which they show genuine respect & admiration for our fearless decider. Yes, I genuflected on that one. As I said before, why did I not find this earlier? RichK

An AM shot at the blog site - doesn't happen too often. Bash away. Don't hold back on my account. I can handle it. I value your perspective, seriously. I know Bush is not all right. But I also know he is not all wrong. I confess to leaning right, but not to wearing blinders. UR, please start a blog re presidential candidates. I trust your opinion, and am still trying to make up my mind. Heck, I might even switch to Dem. Party just so I can help pick the next Pres. in the primary. I seriously doubt if a Rep. candidate stands a chance of winning. I agree with you CCC - Stewart tries to have it both ways. "I'm a comedian, but I want to be taken seriously as a political prognosticator." Stephen Colbert at least keeps his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. When I referenced Fox Noise, I wasn't referring to the local news media. I'll watch any of the Jax news readers - they are all ok and for the most part stick with the events of the day - local, state, national and world. I was referring to the "talking heads" - Hannity, O'Riley, Limbaugh, Nancy Grace, and the others who are so opinionated and self-righteous - not just on Fox, but CNN, MSNBC and others. I don't CARE about their opinions or what they think about lapel pins - wearing, not wearing; who is the father of Anna Nicole's baby (I didn't even know who she was until she died); which Hollywood celebs are in rehab this week, on and on. I don't CARE what they think about the presidential candidates - I think for myself and do my own research. Worst of all they have NO sense of humor!! Unfortunately, many people do listen to the pundits and that's why they are still on the air, yapping and flapping. Also unfortunately, they are far too influential, as millions of people seem to be unable to think for themselves as in the elections, the invasion/occupation of Iraq, etc. Stewart, Colbert and Olbermann poke fun at all that and laughter is good for you! Smunsey, you should try it sometime. Look to your left and enhance your world! Submitted by ClayCountyCurmudgeon on Thu, 10/11/2007 - 9:31am.
RK - What do you think all these hollywood darlings will do for a living when Billary is in the White House? Joke about her wardrobe or hair? Her screeching voice? Will they call her the great Decider, or Deciderette? If you look back, when a Dem (the male Billary for instance) was in office, you didn't see quite the vitriolic political pandering monologues that pass for humor you see now - AND I doubt you will see it when the 'she Billary' version takes office. Too bad. I look back at Johnny Carson's take on Reagan - now that was humor! P.S. You have yet to comment on my Dem secret frat reply to your "simpler political times" blog? P.S.S. Looks like you have a teammate in Sunflower Submitted by RichK on Thu, 10/11/2007 - 12:35pm.
CCC, I went back to the comments & replies under the "Praying in St. John's," blog. That's where you mentioned the Dem secret frat. I saw your reference & a reply or two later, I chimed in & asked you @ it saying that I was in the dark, didn't know what it was. I haven't seen it since, so if I missed it, can you catch me up? Don't worry @ the Hollywood pundits. They should have plenty of work to do. If nothing much happens, they'll make something up. Of course you didn't have the vitriolic humor @ Slick Willie as opposed to W & hopefully, if H. gets the job, we won't have as much either. As I said before, it's the ammunition baby. Let's face it, if you are the target of humor, vitriol & satire, & you just hand over the ammunition to the pundits on pretty much a daily basis, you're going to get shot up pretty badly. That is nothing more than stating the totally obvious. Bush, Cheney & the rest of that flopping flying circus weren't doing too badly. Then came 9-11 & the excremental matter started to hit the revolving wind manipulation device & they provided 99% of the matter. Well they got it back. Sounds like Sunflower & I are on the same track. Now @ that "flamin' liberal," remark. We'll have to talk. RichK Submitted by RichK on Thu, 10/11/2007 - 12:55pm.
Bax, Thanks for the vote of confidence, but don't trust me. I'm not going to accept the responsibility for influencing people to possibly make the wrong decision. Heck, I've made enough of my own, like voting for W the first time. I'm not sure what a presidential candidate blog will accomplish, other than raising collective blood pressures & bile levels. I've narrowed the field down to 3. But that is strictly personal & I won't reveal my choices. I am very disappointed with Fred Thompson. Like him as an actor but no way would I want him in the office. I find some very troubling flaws in some of the other candidates which rule them out in a heartbeat. The others have the usual flaws attributed to being human & siding with one party or another. I think it was Lily's Lore who said it best @ being left with the choice of the lesser of two evils. I'm not the first or only person who has forwarded the opinion that W & his crew have been the worst this country gave to the world & itself. OK. Learn, improve & move forward. It will take years for us to regain our former reputation but I think it can & will be done. We just need the right people. Let's face it. We have the best example of the wrong people. I don't really care if the next pres is an evangelical Christian or a reformed Druid like I used to be. I've said it before & I still mean it. A persons religious views & background should have nothing to do with the business of governing a nation. It should be irrelevent. There are just way too many important, life or death matters about which a pres need be concerned. Look at how many former presidents we've had who were Christian. With only one exception, Nixon, none of them screwed up this country as our current decider has. Enough pontification. Let the games continue. JATFUR. If having Slick Willie in office was not enough fodder for so called political comics, then not sure who would be on the dem side. I could do alot with cigars, bombing tylenol factories, the definition of 'is', free health care for all, and the first first lady to run a country. Anyway - regarding the other blog and the "secret society." I've tried to paste in the address for your blog titled "Simpler Political Times", your 'diatribe' on the right seemingly having the monopoly on the secret society or handshake or whatever. I've included some interesting reading on the left side of the secret society. Must be nice to have 40 mill at your disposal to try to influence a presidential election. CCC, Sorry about the delay. I wrote a reply & must have pushed the wrong button or something because I just noticed that my reply is not here. You'll have to trust my memory. Good Luck. About the story on Soros. Yes the Dems have him & the GOP had the Evangelical Christians & their collective deep pockets. Is there any thing new here? It doesn't matter if you have one dog that is not yours crapping in your yard or a number of other dogs doing the same thing. The result is the same. Besides, collecting money is nothing new. The only thing that is new is the fact that in this race, The Dems are making news @ collecting more money than the GOP. Why? Because The GOP does not have the Christian right to milk the way W did in all their religious zealotry. Check out the web sights of the religious right. I do. I get updates & notices from them. My favorite is the Associated Baptist Press. Trust me, they have learned their lesson. W whored himself out & duped them for their votes & money. He threw them a few bones & then called them names. What a guy. They paid attention, called a meeting & decided they made a mistake but would not do it again. They are now focusing on wider issues. Good for them. 'Bout time they woke up & started thinking @ the whole country. But fear not. The conservatives still have an ace up their collective sleeves. I think that the Dems are still at a disadvantage because they don't have a right wing, conservative, activist, Supreme Ct. chief Justice to sway an election their way. See? things are looking up for you. Have a great one. JATFUR. RichK

I watch the Daily Show every night - usually at 11:00 but you can catch it during the day (I seldom watch daytime TV) or at 8:00 pm. He is honest, hilarious and you can get the real scoop from him. His interview with Chris Matthews last week is worth a look. You can watch the shows online at Comedy Central's website.
I also like Colbert most of the time, but he grates on my nerves with some of his shenanigans. His interviews with various congressional reps are hilarious and pretty revealing, so I do like that segment along with Today's Word.
I try to watch Fox Noise sometimes just to keep up with what they are doing, but usually have to turn it after Hannity interrupts Combes for the upteenth time and won't let him finish a sentence.
We seldom miss Keith Olbermann's Countdown on MSNBC.
And there you have my TV watching habits in a nutshell.
Yes, we are liberals (when did that become a nasty word?) and proud of it.
