The Lesser of Two Evils

During the times of political discussion here, especially during what have been called, "Bush bashing," there have been those of you have also expressed the feeling that regardless of which candidate we have voted for, or are being asked to vote for, there has usuallly been the atmosphere of having to vote, "for the lesser of two evils.

For the most part, there has been general agreement on this point & I agree also.  But running through the news wires, I came across a good one that pretty well, I think, puts it into perspective.  It's a picture of a man with a sign that says, "Vote Democratic in 2008.  Spineless is better than Evil."

Wish I would have thought of that.  Couldn't have said it better myself.  JATFUR.

Don't you just love it when you come across a good short "sting" to one party by another.

I've always felt in general that a good clean sweep is good for the country, the state, a county or a municpality every once in awhile whether it's clearing out the Republicans or the Democrats.  For either "party" to dominate for too long seems to be a major invitations for problems for the country.  Familiarity breeds contempt.

That's cute, Rich, but not quite right - at least from my perspective.

Both the national Democratic and Republican parties are spineless and evil.  It doesn't matter whether their rhetoric begins on the left or right, eventually they meet in the middle without a gnat's hair worth of difference.  The ultimate party goal is not to seize power to instill ideology, but to have the authority to divide the wealth of government contracts to their own party supporters - who often are supporters of the opposing party as well.

Spineless and evil?  Think about how much of each a person must be to rise through the ranks of party politicis high enough to wage a campaign for the presidency.  Spineless - as in speech-writers responding to the most recent poll in order to make sure a candidate tells people what the numbers say they want to hear.  Evil - as in promising integrity, which is something they've all sacrificed long ago in order to be in the position to seek the presidency.

Kinda dreary outlook, I know.  On the bright side, though, I think that sooner or later folks in the good ol' USA are going to realize how much power they really do have and start taking their government back from these spineless and evil political parties that keep feeding us nothing but spineless and evil candidates from which to choose.

Marsha,

Yeah, that was a good one & I wanted to share.  Let's raise a glass or two for a good clean sweep.  Just make sure that you buy the contents for your glass before 2 PM on Sun.

OneMann,

I wish I had thought of that one.  So true.  So are your comments.  That's one of the reasons I posted that saying.  It has to do with what others have said.  People really are tired of having to pick the lesser of two evils.  Spineless & evil are usually in the forefront.  Yeah, kind of dreary.  Here's to a hopefully brighter outlook in 2008.  JATFUR.

No, the political calculator I am referring to is, surprsingly, not Empress Wannabe Hillary Clinton. This is a web site which will ask you some questions and then compare the answers to the stances taken (for now) by the candidates currently in the race. I'm not sure how accurate these can be but it's a fun diversion for a few minutes. For the record, although I want to cast my vote in '08 for Bill Richardson, the calculator tells me I am most aligned with <shudder> Mitt Romney. Since Mitt is a top tier flip flopper akin to John Kerry, I have no idea how this could be. So, for those of you willing, please try this little game and post how you compared with who you would vote for versus who the calculator thinks you would vote for.

This is really interesting. Click on the link below to which presidential candidate matches issues that are important to you.http://www.vajoe.com/candidate_calculator.html

I went to the link and answered the questions.  I matched up perfectly with the candidate of my wishes but no chances, and my second match was one of the top contenders in the Democratic party, my probable choice if we voted today.  It's a very long time until November '08 and this process began WAY TOO EARLY.

Pretty interesting.  Thanks Lily.

PEACE!

I am not happy with who it told me I should support, THAT was a real eye opener Lily.

Marsha & Lily:

How many questions were you "unsure" about?  I answered either yes or no on all but one.  If you checked "unsure" a few times, perhaps that's why your answers didn't  matchup to your actual preference.  Or, maybe your candidate of choice doesn't feel the same about the issues as you do.

The entire political process is just a "crapshoot" anyway, in my humble opinion.  Maybe we should just invite all the candidates to Orange Park's new poker room and let'em use the cards to decide.

PEACE!

After a visit with the political calculator we can see just how right OneMann's comments are as posted above:

"Both the national Democratic and Republican parties are spineless and evil.  It doesn't matter whether their rhetoric begins on the left or right, eventually they meet in the middle without a gnat's hair worth of difference.  The ultimate party goal is not to seize power to instill ideology, but to have the authority to divide the wealth of government contracts to their own party supporters - who often are supporters of the opposing party as well."

Truth in advertising.

On issues that I felt I was not up to speed on I marked unsure to avoid making an uninformed choice.  There were very few "issues" of choice that were important to me personally.  If a body was going to become involved and fully informed on all those choices they would never get anything else done.

That is the flaw in stuff like that, you're asked to make a choice on things that may not be a personal priority in life, so it's results are somewhat subjective to a degree.

I just know who they said was my best choice to support isn't from my perspective for reasons that weren't listed.

What makes it all so bad is the fact that the people we need and would vote for aren't going to get into politics. That is why both parties are so similar, they all run for the same reason, and it ain't because they want to serve

I read an article in this weeks Clay Today ( page 6 ) about one of the Sheriff candidates. Looked pretty impressive to me. That race will soon be heating up and we must educate ourselves as to who will best serve our county for the next four years. Never assume "status quo" is the right thing. When looking at any candidates seat ask yourself, "is there room for improvement ? Has the current incumbent brought his or her area of responsibility forward or has it remained static ? Is a particular candidate more qualified ? Does the candidate really understand the issues ? We should rate all incumbents on their abilities, effectiveness, qualifications, ability to solve problems, ability to compromise when needed, participation in community events on a full time basis, not just for photo opportunities or purely political reasons.

Lily - thanks for the link to the calculator.  I at least had to consider how I feel about many of those issues for a few seconds before responding.  I don't know how much credence to give survey type questionaires, but it was fun.  As an RR, I wasn't really surprised to see Guliani is the guy I most lined up with.  But, frankly, I don't know that I would vote for Rudy.  As far as this issue - presidential candidates - goes, I'm with Clueless.  I am Clueless myself.  As weird as it is for my to write this, Hillary is looking better and better.  Is it possible she could divorce Bill before the election?  Nah.  That'd be asking too much.
