Your Name Here
After this Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. And a large crowd was following him, because they saw the signs that he was doing on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. Lifting up his eyes, then, and seeing that a large crowd was coming toward him, Jesus said to Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?" He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, "Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little." One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to him, "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?" Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, about five thousand in number. Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted. And when they had eaten their fill, he told his disciples, "Gather up the leftover fragments, that nothing may be lost." So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves left by those who had eaten. When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said, "This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!"
Did you catch the name of the boy who gave up his lunch?. Did you catch what he offered? five loaves and two fish, (all that he had). Did you catch the doubt in Andrew’s comment? “but what are they for so many?” Like the boy, you may be offering what little you have. There may even be “Andrew’s” out there who doubt your gift. Like the boy, you name might not go down in the history books, but that’s O.K. Jesus received all the boy had to offer and was able to perform a miracle. Give Jesus your all, however insignificant you think it might be, Jesus can and will do miracles with it. Like the boy, your name won’t be up in lights or on bill boards. Even the ones whom benefit from your selfless giving might not know you from Adam’s house cat, but rest assured, God knows your name and in the end that is all that matters. Danny Legge

Semiredneck, Thanks for the reply, What I meant by "God knows your name" is this...You may be doing things to expand the kingdom of God. You don't do those things so that you may enter the kingdom of God, but because you are part of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, you may not be known here for your sacrifices but you are known by God. As far as continual emphasis on repentance? Jesus didn't speak to the same people all the time, he traveled around with His ministry. 1 Tim 1:15 This is a true saying, to be completely accepted and believed: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I hope that I have answered your question. Danny Submitted by semiredneck on Fri, 09/21/2007 - 1:10pm.
Yes, that essentially answers the question. Thank you. As to repentance, I have to consider how Jesus preached. In Matthew 4, as part of the beginning we have: Jesus Begins His Ministry 12 Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. 13 And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, 14 so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: 15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, 17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” In Luke 13 was the consequence of non-repentance. In Luke 24, as part of His final charge before he ascended: 44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” So, according to the Scripture, beginning, middle and end, it was there. Thank you for perpetuating thought on the Word. You said, "God knows your name and in the end that is all that matters."
If that is so, why did Jesus continually emphasize repentance? I'm not sure where you were going with that statement.
13:1 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”
